Re: How Ford Gauge Unit Work
You're making it far more complicated than it needs to be, my friend.
From a practical perspective, all gauges are measuring current flow in a closed circuit between the sender and the gauge -...

Re: How Ford Gauge Unit Work
Not sure what you're getting at - the current aftermarket sending units do work reasonably well and are a reasonably close match to work pretty well with original gauges.
That said, I only replace...

Re: How Ford Gauge Unit Work
I can't really argue with anything you've said here, except to add that virtually all gauges are really just ammeters calibrated to read whatever we're measuring. Therefore, there is a range of...

Re: 6 to 12 volt horn
It should have been 'plug and play' - there really is no difference - neither the horns nor the relay care about polarity.
The 6V horn relays have heavier internal contacts and are better suited...

Re: 12v Gauges
You can, and probably should use the 6V horn relay. It doesn't care about polarity and the 6V units had heavier contacts. The horn will be much louder and 'angrier' (I like it that way), but short...

Re: Another GAS gauge question/problem
I'm one of those who disagree. ;)
I have used the aftermarket senders on a couple vehicles that have been converted to 12V with no issues.
Based on original poster's comments, I suspect the...

Re: Brockman steel packs
I've got the short brockmans on my '40. Originally, I put long ones on, but it was too quiet. When I did the exhaust on my '36 pickup, I put the long ones on it and swapped in some short ones for...

Re: English Ford Model Y
Perhaps...if you went fenderless...and I don't care for the look of cowl steering on anything but race cars or race-inspired cars.
I think one of those offset chain re-drives might work...

Re: English Ford Model Y
Of course, if you're not interested in the more traditional flat-head 4-cyl of some variety or another, or a V860 is too much to work with regards to steering and suspension, the Fiat Twin Cam is...

Re: English Ford Model Y
If you can, see what they did with the steering. I did some tape-measure engineering on mine - the steering column would come out right smack in the middle of the right head/block area...

Re: T-5 Modification
You will need the tailshaft housing and the top-cover. You can shorten the shifter shaft in the top cover, but you will also need to accurately drill the shifter shaft for the retaining pin - I...

Re: 1940 ford gauge cluster
Yep. I think there's a current eBay retailer that's selling them in lots of 5...a little pricier, but Mouser has been hit/miss buying as an individual in the past for me....I used to have an account...

Re: 1940 ford gauge cluster
Convert it yourself. Use some L7806 for gas, oil, and temp gauges and a 60ohm resistor for the Battery gauge. I did mine in my '40 for about $5 total.

Re: T5 into '35 winter project
No, the 48-52 pickups are a different beast...even the 42-47 are different enough it's not a simple swap. 35-41 is straight-forward.
What he said. I am in the process with my son's '35 and we...

Re: T5 into '35 winter project
I think you can fabricate a ball mount so you don't have to split your wishbones, but it may well need to be lowered which will hurt your caster...which can be solved by some careful cutting and...

Re: 1940 ammeter wiring question.
The '40 BATT meter requires a precision 60 Ohm resistor wired in series with the gauge from 12V to get the correct reading.
A voltage drop will always read 6V or thereabouts. You want to read the...
