Re: Van Pelt?

Mike, your email to me slid by in the avalanche of emails we’ve been getting. I need to pull up our build notes on that job and will try calling you Monday. Sorry for the delay... Mac

Re: Question on Trans Parts for a 39 box

If you use the 51A-7109-S insert kit, you have to use the two circular wire springs with the inserts. The springs are fitted beneath all three inserts, pushing them outward. The book shows how they...

Re: Question on Trans Parts for a 39 box

Thanks for buying the book. The 01A-7124 synchro assembly would be my choice because the inner hub on this one requires the 81A-7069 brass spacing washer....and these are available in two thicknesses...

Re: 1951 Ford overdrive

The picture of the governor drive gear also shows that it has a right hand pitch to the gear teeth. All Ford OD governors used a gear with a LH pitch through 1956. For some reason they changed to the...

Re: 1951 Ford overdrive

Sometimes you can get the ring spread a little bit with the usual lock ring pliers....just enough spread and twist will make one side of the ring open up a gap. You can push a thin blade screwdriver...

Re: Compression tester

Don’t forget to check that the adapter for the plug hole doesn’t thread too far down into the opening.....it could hit moving valves. A guy I know used one with a long adapter plug on a fresh built...

Re: Poor quality transmission roller bearings

We rebuild many early V8 transmissions, which used the same roller bearings as the Model A transmission. Tom’s report is exactly correct. We’ve seen enough of the repro roller bearings fail that we...

Re: 39 transmission. V12 OD to V8-60????

The V-8 sixty doesn’t have the power OR the torque for what you envision, particularly with the overdrive transmission. The gearing in the differential can aggravate the problem if it’s a high ratio....

Re: Flathead Water Pump

The number on the casting could be something used by an aftermarket manufacturer......it’s not a Ford number that I recognize. The pumps generally used on 49-53 late style flatheads in a Model A...

Re: 55 F100 U Joints

The original plug is a pressed steel part and can be driven out from within the splined part of the yoke. Of course , you’ll need to remove it from the transmission and remove the u-joint as well...

Re: 55 F100 U Joints

The original u-joint had an offset to the cross that allowed the plug to clear. The replacement u-joints have a symmetrical cross that bumps into the original plug, as you found out. The solution is...

Re: EV8 parts vendors

Not to mention, it’s not unusual for the prices on such items to be very competitive from the hobby’s smaller vendors. We certainly do check other sources on pricing for stocked parts. For the most...

Re: What happens in a transmission rebuild - Part 11

Our next step is to secure the overdrive lockout shaft. Now that the extension housing is bolted into place, the 7686 lockout shaft can be pushed inward. Place the steel tapered pin into the opening...

Re: What happens in a transmission rebuild - Part 11
