Thanks to everyone who replied.. We have determined that it is not brake fluid in the system and we are going to buy new hoses and flush the cylinders and go with transmission fluid.

Convertible top motor oil

I have a 59 Ford convertible. I have just had the top motor apart and cleaned. I'm wondering what to use for oil in it. The manual says to use brake fluid, but I was wondering if hydraulic jack oil...
