Re: Best chemicals/solutions/goops to clean off gear oil, etc. on a chassis

I find myself using 91% alcohol on tools that are not plated. Degreasing with alcohol gets into the cracks while prepping for Zero Rust. The finish is smoother and leaves some rust protection after...

Re: Shocks

Let's recall that that Ford added a front sway bar in 1940, which made it harder to just bolt on tube shocks to the front end. With or against this, I have been able to find plenty of cores, correct...

Brain Killers!

Cleaning greasy/dirty deposits are the universal job of old car owners yet we tend to blow off concerns of some of the most dangerous products, popular to the process. If it isn't highly flammable,...

Not What It Was!

There have been big changes at Drake since those halcyon days leading up to Catalog 30. I've been out of touch for more than a year, but would be pleased to find them back on top of the market, with...

Re: Early V8 reference books

Favorite books for old Fords is an evolution, depending on the stage of your specific knowledge of your car. I have been playing with pre-war Fords for some time and now use the Chassis parts "Green...

Re: 1941 Shocks, Early/Late?

As TJ pointed out, the '41 pickup is just a '40 with engine options, therefore just explains my making a mystery where there is an answer. lying on my back under the '41, the larger shocks were not...

1941 Shocks, Early/Late?

In the Pre-War "Chassis Book" shocks seem to be listed as 40-1 and 41 for those years, with 01A then 11A respectively. Being ass deep in 01A parts, would be pleased to use those, if needed on a 11A....

Re: Engine in the car for decades.

Tomorrow I'm getting the '41 car towed to my home. Didn't expect to buy it, as I have very promising '40 project that is the best I've ever had, of eight. More money than brains, I just am curious...

Engine in the car for decades.

59A engine in my car with no spark plugs needs lubrication and prep before turning over. I would like some pressure to the crank to avoid dry rotation. Should I use low viscosity or just some oil...

Re: 1941 Transmission Gearset Tricks?

Seth, that's good news, as I need more top speed for survival on the Freeways. I have a 59A pushing those gears in a 40 that may make noise in '24. Ideal is a 99A in 01A dress. Too many projects....

Re: 1941 Floor?

I found the book, put together by the late Ken Brown. It has much of the needed specifics of the truly "Fat Fords". Thanks TJ, Fred A

Re: 1941 Floor?

That must be it, as I used to think the world ended in September, 1940. I'm not even to the point of asking informed questuons of 1941. Thanks: Fred A

1941 Floor?

Do later floorboards fit my 1941? I will be asking more 11A questions as I explore my recent project. Thanks: Fred A

Re: 1940 Deluxe coupe, cowl " water catch tray''

A little heavy on the properly, but of the nine cars from the era of that lovely vent design, all shown the weakness of the seal. There is some range in quality of the replacement seals. I would...

1941 Transmission Gearset Tricks?

I have a 1941 convertible. Ford advertising describes the 1941 cars to be faster than pervious models. Same engine, heavier car, nonsense. Does this magic trick may reflect some change in gear ratios...

Re: DIY headliner bows

This thread went ten rounds without a word of what Ford called these "bows". One of my favorite parts about the Barn has been from those that speak Ford with as much accuracy as was historically...

Why Convert?

I've been using Bendix brakes since '63. A lucky time for available Zephyr brakes. As the supply thinned out in later years, replacements were developed, getting better all the time. I've been lucky...

Re: A head on B engine

Interesting that you would inquire about using the worst to replace the second worst head choice, since there are so many other choices. The Model A head is quickly becoming the first choice in...

Re: 31 open cab pickup #s

Is the question about numbers? I have a '30, but know of no numbers unless you mean body part numbers. I don't have the production numbers. It would be very Ford like to list all pickups together....

Re: AC Electric Fuel Pump?

Luckily, the '40 fuel line is all steel from the tank to the engine compartment. The AC electric fuel pumps are inline and loud enough to warn when out of gas. Thanks: Fred A

AC Electric Fuel Pump?

Considering the use of an AC type fuel pump in my '40. I say AC type in that there are subsequent clones like the Amgauge et al. Here in California we have an ethanol fuel blend that could get worse...

Re: ‘40 radiator Air deflector

Can't let this one slip by. The same cad plated, self tapping, washer bolts in 1/4"- 20 threads are used in several places for sheet metal and brake line brackets. They are now available in zinc and...

Re: '40 Deluxe Starting Crank Extension

I doubt that my '40 coupe will soon see a concourse with a 59A engine and Bendix brakes. Anything worthy of mention in "It's Ford For Forty" makes me curious, as I have the crank handle and often see...

'40 Deluxe Starting Crank Extension

What is the overall length of the extension. Appears that they can vary. Is the crank tool a practical tool or can it damage the radiator or grille? Thanks: Fred A

Re: Carb renew paint

For decades I have favored good original chromate plating on old Ford carbs and other zinc components. Some out here (or one) may be chromate deniers which conflicts with my observations. Either way,...
