I can’t think of a reason why I’d downshift while coming to a stop at 30MPH, unless I had a real bad issue with the brakes. Like was said above, shift earlier and make your movements more relaxed....

I’m no engineer either and if I had to lift the body I would use two engine hoists. I would be afraid of that whole structure toppling over. You’ve got chain falls and two electric hoists, right?.......

I’m working on a ‘51 Tudor and that’s how I did it. Jacked it up by the frame and supported the body, then lowered the frame out from under it. But I worked on the body where it was. I didn’t move it...

Welcome to the Barn. The closest I can come is my ‘50 Fordor weighs 3300# altogether. I’m sure you have a reason to know the weight but, I don’t know why anyone would go to the trouble of weighing...

Make some out of thin strips of real light sheet metal or aluminum cans. Paint them the color of your steering column and may not even see them......Mark
