Re: need advice on removing crankshaft pulley on 81A

Thanks guys. All came off nice and easy and the button was as described too. As for fitting a helmet distributor - yep - that would be a nice original look, but I wanted to get the old girl up and...

Re: need advice on removing crankshaft pulley on 81A

Thanks Mart. That's a worry. Not sure what an extender button looks like. I have the Lucas out already. Will the button be sitting on the end of the camshaft or on the back of the dizzy? I...

need advice on removing crankshaft pulley on 81A

Hi. Have a '36 RHD coupe-ute (Canadian build) with a later 24 stud engine. For some reason it has a timing cover with a 3-bolt Lucas distributor. To fit the original type 2-bolt, I need to replace...

Re: problems with '39-'42 brakes on my '36 Ford roadster

Sorry about the late reply. I'm still fighting with the brakes on this old girl. I had the front shoes relined and matched to the drums. I've put new wheel cylinders on the front as well, as one...

Re: problems with '39-'42 brakes on my '36 Ford roadster

I think I found a possible solution. Residual pressure valves. From an earlier post:

Adding a dual master cylinder with adapter to my 40 Ford with stock drum brakes. Need to add 10lb. residual...

Re: brake issues on 1936 with '39-42 setup

For those interested, my front shoes were glazed (no sign of wear). The brake specialist told me he reckoned they were at least 20 years old, so I'm having them redone and the brakes skimmed. ...

Re: brake issues on 1936 with '39-42 setup

Hi flatheadmurre. Thanks for your advice. The bore is 1" diameter, not sure what it's meant to be. The shoes do look glazed, so I'll deal with that first.

Thanks, Lloyd

Re: brake issues on 1936 with '39-42 setup

Sounds like I better check out the linings and replace them. I'm not sure how they age or deteriorate with time, although I understand that they can become glazed. Hopefully there's someone local...

Re: brake issues on 1936 with '39-42 setup

Just got home. Thanks for all the quick and useful replies.

It's strange that my front brakes don't have lower adjusters. I can see that they're available online.

Sounds like I ought to check...

Re: advice on turn signals for a '36 roadster

I've got one like that, that I bought for another car and didn't use, so it's a good backup option.

Cheers, Lloyd

Re: advice on turn signals for a '36 roadster

Thanks for the handy images. I was going to wire it up myself rather than buy a kit as you're only paying for wiring, a flasher and a toggle switch. Cheers, Lloyd

Re: advice on turn signals for a '36 roadster

That's a bit of lateral thinking. Depending on how well I can make the wiring inconspicuous, I might try that.

Re: advice on turn signals for a '36 roadster

Yep. That's them. Just don't like the idea of those contraptions hanging off my steering column. Cheers, Lloyd

Re: advice on turn signals for a '36 roadster

Hi Tom. I like the look of those too. I might see if I can get the original light switch on the steering wheel working too. Much better to have it oriignal.

Cheers,

Lloyd

Hi. I bought a RHD '36 Ford roadster here in Australia several months ago. It's in original condition, except that it's had a 12V conversion. I'd like to install turn signals in a way that doesn't...

Re: problems with speedo gear on my 1940 F1

From the Early Ford Store of CA, this one is advertised. It says it's for 1928 - 1948. Also says "This is the gear that slides onto the front of the driveshaft and turns the speedometer gear that is...

Re: problems with speedo gear on my 1940 F1

Thanks Terry. Before I order the right gear from the US, I better find out exactly which one I need. Given that it's an Australian delivery (built in the US, but RHD), it could be a '39? I'm not...

Re: problems with speedo gear on my 1940 F1

I think I've found what I'm missing! Urrrgh! I guess I have to push the diff back and drop the torque tube. Any easy way around this? Cheers, Lloyd

Re: need help installing a tranmission in a 1940 Ford

Problem sorted. (Went into the shed after dinner - couldn't let it beat me!) Used very long bolts around the bellhousing and aligned/guided the transmission on that way. Worked a treat. Didn't fit...
