If the tank does't leak, leave the existing brace in place and just add the dash mount bracket.

I have them on all three of my cars and they help keep light rain out and help keep my wife's hair in place!!! I use trim cement on the rubber pads, and have never had one loosen.

I'd tighten the rods untill you can just move them from side to side with a small hammer. I've done this many times without any problems.

I tried float a motor mounts years ago and noticed no difference. I took them out and put original back. Don't try to have your car judged with them in because they are not allowed.
