Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle

Most of them use the A axle and wheels so they can have the juice brake but stock look.

I wonder how many quick change axles have been narrowed for custom race applications. Nothing is new under...

Re: C59A Generator Amp Info/Wiring Gauge

If the engine is mostly rubber mounted then the engine drive assembly should be grounded to the battery and the frame. A lot of the battery installations in late flatheads had the battery grounded to...

Re: Magneto and belts

I can't tell for sure but the Photo in posts 51/52 looks like a crab type cap. That would be a 1942 type set up or a modified rabbit ear distributor. With centrifugal advance and a vacuum brake they...

Re: generator output

None of the repros are made to function as well as the old OEM ones.

A person can test one with a low battery and a battery charger with correct voltage. Connect the amp meter in between the...

Re: Recommended Turning Signal Switch

Some folks will pay the big bucks for the old Signal State 700 Burn Out Proof units. There are still old SigFlare 900 units out there in pretty good shape. The new Signal Stat 900 models are good...

Re: '51 o/d cable holder

I can't speak on the Fords but my 51 Mercury has a tapped bolt hole above and centered between the shift arms on the side cover where a bolt and clamp attach to secure the cable housing.

Re: Nu Rex ignition switch

The new type switch can be connected to either control power from the battery to the coil or the ground pathway between the coil and the breaker points in the distributor. We would need to know which...

Re: Business coupe oval windows?

I've seen quite a few older car tops that have multiple back light glasses inset in side by side fashion.

The complete 29 Sport Coupes quarter oval windows are just mounted to the top material....

Re: Stromberg of carburetor

Stan Howe used to be the go to guy for the OF models. Sadly, he passed in 2021.

Re: Business coupe oval windows?

I've seen the bare frames before but I've not seen any with glass and what looks to be suspenders. Any of you 1929 Business Coupe owners have insight on those suspenders. The screws that hold the...

Re: NOS 8RT camshaft

This link has info but I didn't see anything about the 8RT.
https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59029&showall=1

Some of the parts with odd prefixes are follow on replacement parts....

Re: Magneto and belts

I found a good diagram and can see the way the drive fits into the the advance mechanism which in turn is driving the magnet shaft and breaker cam. It showed a clothes pin spring set up to push the...

Re: Coil adapter issue

The high tension terminal of an adapter plate will still be functional with 12-volt if it was made for 6-volt. The only part of an ignition system that voltage matters with is just the coil. A 1.5...

Re: Magneto and belts

I know how they work but even with 10 degree advance it still has no load control. A street engine would function much more efficiently with load control is my main concern. A Chevy distributor with...

Re: Magneto and belts

There is not really any way to put load control on a mag unless the whole mag rotates or at least the magnet rotates along with the points. Centrifugal impulse couplings are not for anything other...

Re: Rewiring headlights on a 1950 Ford Tudor

It depends on whether you are using say a Bauer Electronics headlight harness or whether you are making your own harness. My 1951 Merc had the headlamp special harness that was made for each headlamp...

Re: Car will not start

With 40 psi readings it indicates the engine is getting a little tired. To check the rings, a person can squirt some oil in each cylinder and retest. If compression improves then it indicates the...

Re: Magneto and belts

There is a caveat to using magnetos. They don't generally have any way to change the spark advance. Aircraft use them but they pretty much run at a fixed RPM for the most part. They have to have a...

Re: 51 Mercury steering column diameter

I'm not where I can check one of my 51s but it likely is pretty close to 2 1/8". It has another tube inside to shift the transmission. What is the need? Are you looking to change it out with another...

Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle

The Hot Rod Works advertised axle conversions for early Ford housings. Just about anything is possible if one is willing to throw enough funds at it and do all the work. The M/T Lincoln brakes could...

Re: NOS 8RT camshaft

The last new flathead cam I bought was an EAB cam. It was likely the replacement cam toward and after the end of flathead production. That purchase was back in the early 80s when there was more NOS...

Re: Shocks difference

Some of the chassis parts catalogs have good illustrations of all the different who-die shocks. There were a lot of differences as the Fords evolved. They finally offered piston or aircraft shocks as...

Re: Straightening up a couple of Model A's (Advice needed)

The center mount E-brake is a late 1928 & early 29 thing too. To do the floor out of steel, a person would need to figure out the best way to tie the body parts into the floor. If your building it to...

Re: Car will not start

Arcing at the points doesn't tell you whether the high tension is getting to the distributor cap. A person really should find a good way to check for spark between the distributor cap and the block....
