Re: Reusing head bolts.

We had to temporarily make them unavailable for a bit but they are now back in stock. I’ll have to fix that little glitch.....

Re: Looking for a new job-maybe...

Let me clarify my thoughts on this....as to my pondering a class for transmission rebuilding. I’m not really interested in doing a seminar for the general public. In other words, for guys who would...

Re: Looking for a new job-maybe...

I’ve also thought about this question because of the general aging of some of the guys who are experts in various fields of early Ford restoration work. Guys like Dick Spadaro are gone and those...

Re: Using later valves in a '39 flathead

You can definitely use the later (8BA type) valves in your 39 block.....just use the matching 8BA valve components with them (springs, spring retainers, keepers, guides). The valve guide retainers...

Re: 1939 Shifter Tower Leather Gasket

David, to my knowledge they are not stamped with any taper.

Re: 1939 Shifter Tower Leather Gasket

We sell the leather seals. They come in slightly oversized in diameter. When I tried to see about having them stamped to the exact correct diameter, they quoted me several thousand dollars for the...

Re: starter bendix

Yep.....the ones we sell (bendix style) are made in the USA. I never liked the modern barrel type ......difficult to install on a 49-53 flathead and no service parts available.

Re: 47 pickup tranny

The 1949-50 Mercury overdrive transmission would be a pretty easy swap into the 46-47 pickup truck but you would have to find a column shifter to work with it since it’s a side loader type that is...

Re: VANPELT toll free number

We had two different carriers for our 800 number, one being the original version of Cincinnati Bell. Each one seemed to have various technical issues that plagued us off and on. They were informed of...

VANPELT toll free number

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.....we discontinued our 800 number as of January 2, 2020. There were various problems with the service that could not be resolved and we realized that almost...

Re: Transmission woes

It sounds suspiciously like a problem in the OD fork and rail assembly, including perhaps the connecting parts. There’s also a unique flapper lever (7292) in the side cover that is used in connection...

Re: Overdrive governor

We still have a supply of NOS governors in stock. These are the later version with the steel top cap, rather than the plastic top. They are completely interchangeable.

Re: Fresh load of transmission cores has arrived

Until we get the shop better organized we need to limit our acquisitions to smallish batches like this one.

Fresh load of transmission cores has arrived

Will and I took a road trip yesterday and returned with a load of much-needed transmission cores for rebuilding and parts. Always looking for this stuff!

Re: Transmission woes

Check both of the shifter levers down on the transmission. The 49-50 Mercury levers were rolled and bent from heavy sheet metal and after many years of use they tend to crack at the 90 degree bend...

Re: Old transmission..... New transmission

Your driveshaft slip yoke seems to be oddly further out of the transmission than would seem normal. Is that the original yoke?

Re: Are there "early" and "late" distributor caps?

Almost certainly, you have the incorrect inner terminal plates for your distributor. That would reorient the outer cap to the odd position you’re seeing. The outer caps are the same from 1932 through...

Re: Pulling engine

I think his reference to the green grease was from the pilot bearing, which he was calling a “thrust bearing”..........at least I think that’s what he meant.

I don’t trust the chinee sealed ball...

I know that you’re very good about referring people to us so I’m trying not to single you out. My comments about the pictures is hopefully taken in good faith, and also directed to folks in general....

Re: Difficulty shifting a 39 Trans

Lots of questions and little background given in your post. Which tower did you attempt to use? Which shift forks are in that tower? Which shifter lever are you using? Are you 100% sure you have the...

Re: timng gear from a camshaft

I assume that your request was for the timing gear on the camshaft. For 1935-38 cams that gear was pressed onto the camshaft. Those were fiber gears with a steel center bore. There’s a small notch on...

Re: Tranny info and test?

Ahh......the hopes and dreams of the transmission novice. Stop and think about just this for a moment. To install or remove the early Ford transmission is quite a project, with the torque tube...

Shifter tower blues

We go through this with every transmission shifter housing and every core shifter housing that comes through our shop. Each one is oven baked and media blasted to clean away all the grease, oil,...
