Because I installed air conditioning I find it quite inconvenient to use the foot starter and am asking for guidance in installing a pushbutton and solenoid type starter like the ford V8 finally came...

Re: Reinstallation engine with trans.

I like having help to align everything and get it set in the frame. I can button it up at my leisure but with help it goes really quite quickly. By myself I have spent an hour or so getting done what...

Re: New blocks

Great to hear. I'm hoping that you have the best of luck and get thousands out there. Or at least enough that I will be able to watch one run in some car, mine or a friends, maybe both.

Re: Broken bolt on Bendix Spring

Well we now have one bolt and two magnets in that deep dark place. Engine runs fine so don't plan on adding more magnets to the mix. I don't know why the magnets leapt off the flywheel but it was...

Broken bolt on Bendix Spring

Just went to help with a truck that wouldn't start. 1929 Ford that had been out to a show and when the party that was showing it wanted to take it home, it wouldn't start. Knowing nothing of the...

Re: Double Nutting advice

Arc welding the outer nut will put a lot of heat on the stud and it should then back out.

Re: Membership dropping, interest too???

Seems like Hemming's is getting thicker, more cars in a lot of categories? Does it seem that way to others. Perhaps it's the "thinning of the herd. I know I just cut from three A's to two and may...

Re: update on 33 unreliable

Yup, guy from Blackhawk. I'll see him on Sunday. As far as the prior links I tried and failed miserably. then I went into PM's and looked for a guy that said he wanted to assist. Couldn't even find...

Re: Dome light

It might be from a 29 deluxe delivery? I certainly would use it on mine if I still had it. Not a show car, I might ad.

Re: rotor to body distance

Best to get all the gaps the same rather than sweat the exact number. I made all of mine right at .030 and car runs fine. Some of the older bodies will become misshapen by laying on their side for...

update on 33 unreliable

So here's what has happened lately. Good old boy got the car running well and tracking okay(?) so he called my friend and we went over to pick it up. It was in front of his shop purring like a...

Re: 31 Deluxe Roadster Cowl Lights?

I'm shrunk down to a tad over 5'10" yet most of my height in in a long torso and short legs. In a deluxe roadster of the 31 variety, when looking straight ahead I see the top of the windshield. I...

Re: putting gasoline in your Model A

PVC works for me. A friend gave me a "U" shape tool similar to a two tined cooking fork that will hold the Nozzle in the fill position no matter how it sits on the filler neck. I forget to use it...

Re: steering box

56 Ford 1/2 ton truck. Lots of folds convert them, Randy Gross is close to you and does an excellent one. That and a short Pitman arm will seem like power steering to you.

Re: Weard leaks

After re-torquing the head, start the engine and go through at least warming it up and see if the radiator is plugged. I would be more concerned with that than degradation of the copper head-gasket....

Re: Gas tank seeping.

Buy the 31 mount that moves the brace away from the tank. On some cars you will have to make an adapter to make it do the job, but it is easily done with common tools and no welding, just drill some...

Re: Model A cross-country migration

Get a copy of the mafca roster and keep it with you. Folks along the way may be needed for any number of reasons. Longest trip I have made in a day was Portland to Danville, CA. Other long ones were...

Re: REAR END RATIO vs MITCHELL OVERDRIVE

With the mitchell you end up with six speeds forward and two reverse. I have a 3:78 and wish I had used the 4:11 for climbing the hills. Could drop to second direct and pul most anything and I'm not...

Re: Pencil filter

Be awfully careful with inline filters. Model A's generally don't care for them. Gas flow will stop in the worst possible situation. ie. long bridge, huge intersection, when you have no tools. When...

Re: 30 PU max safe driving speed

I bought a Borg Warner O/D with a complete differential and torque tube, even had near new brake shoes. I put it in my coupe with 3:78 gears but it would be a much better performer with 4:11's. Plans...

Re: Water pump to buy?

Really shouldn't leave you stranded if somewhat close to home. (50 miles or so) Remove the fan belt and drive on home after refilling the radiator. Might have to top it up a time or two but...
