You didn't say, but I assume the carburetor is a 94. Did you check the power valve? As the previous owner had fuel issues, he may have disabled the power valve, which would explain the starving...

87 is fine, you got that right.

Higher octane cleaner burn more efficient? Higher octane may be more efficient for a high compression...

Carl, With gas in the bowl, look down the throat and pump the throttle one time. You'll see two squirts of gas if the carb has been rebuilt correctly, after which the engine should start immediately....

Good question. Unfortunately, there is barely room for the wires, let alone adding terminals that would also need insulation from each other.
