Re: Coolant Debris Looks Like RTV

The Gano is designed with two screens - the first one the coolant reaches is essentially flat, with a 5/16” hole in its center that allows the coolant to continue its journey to the second...

Smile Re: Coolant Debris Looks Like RTV

Been running her with a 50/50 mix, but planning to transition to water and Water Wetter when I do the flush. Know that eventually the Gano will catch all the debris that's left, but so far the...

Coolant Debris Looks Like RTV

Have been running my newly rebuilt engine for several months now, and have had a Gano filter installed since it’s first start. The Gano is definitely doing its job, but clogs fairly quickly. When...

I just installed the APCO gauge and the outlet with the probe mount and it works very well.

Re: Battery- Again

I purchased the Tractor Supply battery and it was exactly what I needed. I had a newly rebuilt motor that was tight, and the high cranking amps handled the load well. Great price, too.

Re: Crankshaft End Play on Rebuild

Terry,

Engine was converted to inserts, so the 1/2 bearings just roll up into the grooves machined into the block, and both are held in place by the rear main cap.

Kurt,

My finger tells me...

Re: Crankshaft End Play on Rebuild

Removed pan yesterday, and as expected, lots of fine bearing material in the very bottom. Removed rear main, and also as expected, the flywheel side bearing was worn, miking out at .216" (the other...

Re: Crankshaft End Play on Rebuild

I appreciate all the help. Planning to drop the pan today and will take a look. Very, very disappointing, to be sure. Thank you again! Bud

Crankshaft End Play on Rebuild

Had my 29 A motor completely rebuilt (stock specs except for inserts a 5.5 head) and I reinstalled it last month. Runs and drives well, with clutch and trans both smooth and positive. Discovered...

Re: Broken bolt on Bendix Spring

Had the exact same thing happen to my '29. I already had one of those magnetic pickup tools that mount a small but powerful magnet on a flexible articulated shaft, and gave it a try. It easily...

Re: Clamshell won’t close

Earlier today, I installed two slightly thicker gaskets and that seems to have done the trip. If I detect any issues once it is running and driving, I will go the ratchet route to pull the axle in. ...

Re: Clamshell won’t close

Tom,

The bell is probably >3/32" off the inner cup - not bearing against it, but given the engine is squarely on its mounts and the rear end has not been R and R'ed, I am at a loss why there...

Clamshell won’t close

Dropped the engine in my ‘29 yesterday and all well. So this morning decided to button up the u-joint housing and no go. New felts installed, lightly greased, but if I try to attach the clamshell...

Re: Transmission to Flywheel Housing Help!

Miked the pilot bearing and input shaft tip and found them to be a bit on the tight side. A few seconds polishing the tip with some crocus cloth did the trick and the two assemblies came together...

Re: Transmission to Flywheel Housing Help!

Didn’t use a old input shaft, but did use the plastic tool available from most of the parts vendors, so I’m thinking it’s lined up ok. I’ll give it another try today and see if I have any better...

Transmission to Flywheel Housing Help!

Installed flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate today and tried to mate them up with the trans bellhousing. The input shaft indexed fine into the disc, but I was unable to join the two halves. ...

Re: Pencil filter

When I started to get my pickup back on the road I realized I had a real problem with sediment in the tank because I couldn’t get any decent fuel flow. Thought my only option was to pull the tank. ...

Model A Oil Pan Installation Questions

Well, my motor is back from the rebuilder, and its time to mount the oil pan and flywheel housing. Would really appreciate any input to some questions I have before I proceed.

1. The pan gaskets...

Re: New surprises with my 'new' 31-Tudor

Actually, in Texas, unless you title and register it as an antique, with "limited" driving privileges, the required inspection regimen always includes a visual match between the VIN on the frame (or...
