Re: Brake Drum Paint

I painted my Lincoln brakes with Rustoleum black paint-brushed on. I think high temp engine paint from a spray can would be better.
I have been told that unpainted brake drums dissipate heat better...

Re: 48 Ford car rear hub bearing dimensions

Yes. The bearing has play and is not a really tight fit. Slides in and out easily.

Re: Clutch Release Shaft Bushing tool

Check the OD of sockets you have in your tool box. One might clear the bore and fit the OD of the bushing so you can tap it out. If you have access to a lathe you could "turn" a "shouldered" tool...

Re: Change from 16 inch wheels to 15 inch wheels

I changed the wheels on my 40 Ford from 16 to 15 in. 1971 as I wanted to install wider tires and lower the ride height a little. There are no direct advantages if you plan to keep your car "stock"...

Re: Pictures V8 Diff.

Here's a bunch of spring/axle photos from a 40 Ford. Spring is bolted to inside of rear cross member. Tube shocks, brass spring bushings and homemade shackles are not stock. Spring is stock 40.

Re: Clutch adjustment

I found that replacing the pin that holds the clutch release fork (7515) on its shaft (7510) by drilling and tapping both the fork and the shaft for a Grade 8 fine thread bolt and lock nut works...

Re: Ujoint gaskets for 1947 Ford

I don't see where it would matter if the bolts point downward. I filled clamshell until I saw grease inside the speedometer turtle opening as shown in third photo. Ignore that little clear plastic...

Re: Ujoint gaskets for 1947 Ford

As I recall that cork gasket is # 4516 that fits as one piece inside the rounded lip of the split clamshell halves, NOT as shown in above photo. I replaced my cork gasket with the aftermarket version...

Re: New parts suggestion’s for 1951 ford custom v8

The mechanical pump will work fine so long as it's new and has a good diaphragm. When you remove the old pump check to make sure the fuel pump push rod is still in place, otherwise the pump won't...

Re: Can 12V horn from '50s' be adapted for 6V system?

Couldn't you reduce the 12V to 6V by using a resister on the line?

Re: Can 12V horn from '50s' be adapted for 6V system?

I wonder if you could use a resister in the horn wire and drop the incoming 12V to 6V?
I think you need a 60 ohm resister.

Re: 8ba oil pump question

How do you adjust for the thickness of the gasket when using the .008 in. clearance?
A piece of 8 1/2 x 11 paper stock is about .005. Would that be ok to use as a gasket?
Thanks.

Re: 1936 Ford Convertible Project value ?

Kube, That's a great story. Those were good days when folks really helped each other out and patriotism was a virtue. (Just my opinion.) I also found WI folks to be good people. In 1971 ran out of...
