Re: Amost off topic

Reminds me of, "If a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman to hear, is he still wrong?"

Re: 1946 Mercury/Ford Dash Light Switch Removal.

If it's anything like the Ford dimmer switch, the gauges are distinctly visible to the naked eye at its highest setting. I bypassed mine long ago.

Re: Spark plug terminals in Helmet dizzy cap?

I'm with ford38v8. Having just recently replaced the plug wires in my '40, I don't see how it could be done without totally redesigning the caps.

Re: XM Radio On 6 Volts Positive?

They make a magnetic mount antenna that can be run out through the window when the radio is in use and removed when it is not.

Re: RPM range for 51 merc flathead

My '40 with a 221 flathead, Offenhauser heads, 4bbl carburetor, Fenton headers, and Columbia will comfortably do 70 mph indicated at 2800 rpm. Like Tubman says, 3800-4000 is as high as I would ever...

Re: How to remove distributor caps 1936

Another option is to remove the looms and wires so you work on a bench.

Re: Stick On Windshield Antenna For A 40

Down here, we get gospel music in addition to the Spanish content. Some mornings, you just want to fly away.

Re: Mitchell Overdrive

Another option you might consider is a higher ratio rear end, e.g., 3.78. Mitchells are nice, though.

Re: 40 Ford DLX antenna

If you're a member of the EFV8 Club, you could check the member directory for '40 wagon owners.

Re: 40 Ford DLX antenna

Can't say on wagons, but on sedans, it's pre-drilled and covered by the rear view mirror mount, through which the antenna passes. The only drilling required is through the roof.

Re: 1936 coil testing

A little off the subject, but wondering if coils can deteriorate just sitting on the shelf, like condensers, or do they get weak through repeated use?

Re: 50 custom

Make sure it's got gas, oil, and a charged battery, hit the switch, and see what happens. The results will determine subsequent actions.
