Re: Data plate rivet holes don't line up

I had this problem when restoring my 190A. Rather than rework the original holes in the firewall, I pulled the holes in data plate using a rat tail file. Look closely and you can see the elongation...

Re: Bendix Spring bolts

The Bendix starter drives were troublesome throughout the Model "A" years judging by the quantity of service bulletins issued about them. My comments regard the A-11350-C Drive.

Refer to the Ford...

Re: MMO non believers

I can understand the shutoff valve and carburetor getting deposits from modern gasoline if it is allowed to evaporate in the system. However, every time I put my Model A's away for the day, I run my...

Re: Cold Weather Operation

I have driven my Coupe in below zero weather. The only difficulty was shifting the transmission until the gear oil warmed-up. The speedometer also was erratic because some grease was in the cable.

Re: Black fender paint

I choose DuPont's Nason single stage urethane for its durability, ease of touch-up and comparable lower cost. Gloss without color sanding is excellent. Very little orange peel.

Re: Stop Quick, engine dies

When stopping quickly, the gasoline in the float bowl surges forward uncovering the passage to the Compensator Jet, and uncovering the passage to the Main Jet & GAV. It is likely that the Idle Jet...

Re: Torque dimension

Engineers refer to Torque = Force x Distance = Lbs-Ft. Expressing it as Ft-Lbs makes no difference in the magnitude of the number. In Europe, it is Newton-Meters.

Re: Air Maze Air Filter on Zenith Carb Question

Anything you put at the inlet of the carburetor is going to reduce the inlet air flow, and reduce engine power.

Re: Mysterious hole in valve chamber?

The hole was in the casting pattern, and not bashed-in. Having taken apart many engines, the hole in question is rarely nice and round. More often it is irregular.

The concern with an irregular...

Re: Sea foam

Since 1962, no additives have been put into the gasoline of my Model A's. The cars survive the Long Island winters without any issues.
