Re: Parts needed with switch to 12 volt system

The total electrical load becomes half of what it was originally because of the electrical rule that says when you double the voltage the amperage load will be reduced by half

Re: Parts needed with switch to 12 volt system

and why have vehicles been adding 42 volt charging systems? Because they can use less wire. and supply more loads efficiently,,,why? volts is pressure , amps is flow, a higher pressure supplies...

Re: Parts needed with switch to 12 volt system

An alternator ONLY produces what is asked for by the system and the loads, if a 100 amp alternator is on your car and you only have a 20 amp load , it will ONLY supply the 20 amps needed/asked...

Re: Parts needed with switch to 12 volt system

The “local” and “online” experts may tell you, that you need to add a “shunt” to your original amp gauge when you upgrade to a modern alternator type of charging system. You do not and here is why…....

Re: Alternator vs. generator?

(I changed mine to a alternator and love it. Generators are just fine, but an alternator keeps your battery in better shape )

Re: Alternator vs. generator?

(Alternators don't last nearly as long as a good or properly rebuilt generator)

LMAO

Re: Gear Reduction Starter feed back please

Colin, Don't have any personal experience in using the gear reduction starter BUT if your disappointed with the original results, It definitely looks like a very good option and should be a Very...

Re: alternator purchase

Patrick, I am not sure why you would find internal regulators to be a major replace part, , That is not really the case at all , Unless you are referring to the Generator regulators. and Not...

Re: alternator purchase

I would actually think the stator or diodes would be cooked before a regulator would have a problem but things happen, just as it would be an accurate assumption that if a generator was installed...

Re: alternator purchase

VERY TRUE, I can Guarantee you that every rebuilder of a generator would PREFER you don't continually do that , because of what it does to the generator, also why MAJORITY of Generators you open up...

Re: alternator purchase

Well when Kevin can learn to have the belt tension correct , I guess that will solve that problem, as attested to by the many who have an alternator and do not hear there belt slipping and sorry...

Re: ammeter vs voltmeter?????

Swedishsteel. if the regulator is a 12 volt , then it is a 12 volt and not a 6 volt, The diodes have nothing to do with what Volt it is, THEY do have something to do with what ground it is, as in...

Re: ammeter vs voltmeter?????

Alternators and Amp Gauges…
If you had a generator type of charging system you were used to seeing the amp gauge needle go over to the charge side quite a ways when going down the highway. When you...

Thank you for the kind words and I am continuing his practices, though I have made some very large improvements over those original alternators as I do not use the 10 si series anymore , and I am...

Re: alternator purchase

To say alternator conversions are only good for the economy is a very unfair personal observation, with an alternator you are removing the inability of the generator and incorporating a unit that can...

Re: alternator purchase

Yes that is a nice unit for low amperage demand vehicles like race cars, I am actually working to incorporate these into a generator case for Model T's as there amp demand is still low with...
