Do I need to pull the vacuum canister off first? Do I unbolt at the bango or the side of the Columbia unit?

I want to crack my Columbia open to check condition . I never have took one apart. I know some of you guys would crack these things in parking lots. So what's the best way of going about opening...

Nice Columbia unit. Been in dry storage 45+ years. Rear is complete. No controls. Tag reads IFM-46

Nice Thanks! Lots of casting sand came out of the intake. I think the engine didn't take any. I am going to change the oil and check it

Block off plates between intake and gasket. The plate on opposite side of crack did not come.pletely cover hole.

Pulled the intake off last night. The heat ports where blocked with off with cuts of tin. Opposite side of crack the tin only covered 3/4 of the hole.

I pulled my car out of the basement yesterday to get it ready for some upcoming shows. I popped the hood and this is what I found.
Should I be concerned or is this just a failed 70 year old...
