Re: '54 / '55 Fordomatic ID ?

I haven't had a Fordo since 1968, so I'm trying to remember what I've read more recently. But isn't there a kind of "slip joint" in the bellcrank, and a spring that controls it? And you push that...

Re: electric fans and temp gauge?

If the oem temp sender was NPT, then with enough parts you can always fit a T in. I've not had good luck with T's, the lack of water flow past the sensor seems to make them read either slow or...

Re: 64 Galaxie adding sound deadening material

Go over to the HAMB and search "peel and seal". You don't need to be a member. You'll find whole threads on a variety of products, effects, etc. Peel and seal is a roof patching product from a big...

Re: Car Show Yesterday

I go to a fair number of shows, but aside from Goodguys they are all charity shows of some sort. The local club does scholarships at trade schools, others are donations to communities groups, etc. ...

Re: New Brake Shoes

The story you heard is probably about the stock wheel with the small center hole. I don't think the 1/8" or so offset change is much of a problem. But some aftermarket wheels may not clear the...

Re: New Brake Shoes

I've been running front disc on my 55 bird since 1999. A Granada rotor with the hub turned down a bit to clear the small center hole in OEM wheels, early Fairlane calipers, custom brackets. There's...

Re: Soot from exhaust on start-up

I've read plugs for years, but trying to do it with ethanol fuel seems more difficult. They all seem to run pretty light even with proper jetting off the dyno. But remember back in the day, a bit or...

Re: 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon/ Vintage Air Question?

If you want to custom design something, you might also look at Old Air Products. They list more "component" stuff, including under dash a/c. They have a truck y block bracket requires GM...

Re: 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon/ Vintage Air Question?

I've got a classic air in my 12v 55 Thunderbird. Rotowrench is right about the power requirements. You just don't add a bigger alternator, you've also got to increase the wire size from it to the...

Re: 312 rear main seal

First I saw this tool I was 16. I'm 70, so it's been around for a while. Don's right about the seal retainer.

Look at Ted's site about offsetting the seal. I linked it above.

Re: 312 rear main seal

I replaced the rear main on my 312 with the engine in place in my roadster. I used the Best Garket black neoprene seal, and followed the instructions by Ted Eaton. One caution, Best made some...

Re: Vintage Mustang Form ?

I had a similar problem over at yblocksforever. My Safari browser had done an update, and was defaulting to "show desk top site" when I opened it. Reset that, problem went away. A guy up in BC...

Re: 1955 t-bird door latch loose

Not a real good photo, but the point of the wheel at the 1" mark moves 1/4" clockwise when rotated. So 1/2" sounds like a lot of wear. My latches were replaced by new (or rebuilt, don't remember)...

Re: choke setting

Thanks, Sal and Dave, you've rung a bell from way back. I'm not sure I ever worked on one of those, but I remember the "manual choke no fast idle setting" from the early days on Dad's marine...

Re: Replace any tire over 6 years old.

Only once have I had a catastrophe tire failure, and that was on a motor home. Probably age or impact related, but it was cool and properly inflated when it lost the whole tread. What I've seen more...

Re: What is your favorite brand of spark plug wires?

One more thing I'll throw in. I've never found better routing and securing of the plug wires than the factory looms. I had mine powder coated bright silver, looks almost like chrome. Black, they'd...

Re: choke setting

There should also be some instructions in the shop manual about setting the fast idle screw, etc. It's pretty simple once you've done it.

Re: What is your favorite brand of spark plug wires?

I've never had any problems with the wire sets I bought from Larry's Thunderbird, and I'm running MSD units on both cars. No cross fire, no missing, and no falling off. Boots holding up fine next to...

Re: 1955 t-bird 4.10 gears to replace 3.31

If you're asking if the 4.11 gears will fit in the 3.31 housing, best I know the answer is yes. I know it'll work the other way, and best I can recall the rear cover gasket was the same on my 3.31...

Having just seen Ford vs Ferrari, I'd like to see that. Just to compare what was said then.

I'm not much for movies, but I liked that one.

Re: 1955 t-bird 4.10 gears to replace 3.31

To add to what rotorwrench said. In the late 60's, I pulled the 3.31's out of my 55 bird and stuck the rearend from a 56 6 cyl o/d wagon in it. That was a 4.27 or 4.30 ratio. IIRC, I swapped the...

Re: Fuel Tank Leak Fiasco at Tank '56

The FAQ's on the JB site. Check other products listed for "wet" gasoline or water repairs.

https://www.jbweld.com/faqs

Doesn't say if it'll fill the hole from a 38, but might work on a fitting.
