Re: Backfire on deceleration

I had a backfire problem on deceleration. Backfire through the muffler. Turned out to be an exhaust valve on number three cylinder that was sticking. I use MMO in the gas and crankcase. I solved...

Re: Fellas... I've had enough...

I agree with Ryan.

The suggestion of a user's name and address is right on.

Thanks Ryan for trying to clean the place up.

Re: Shifting into gear after start.

Idle set too high. As mentioned could also be clutch adjustment. And then there are some folks that can't shift a Model A's gears without some grinding. You just have to get the "feel" of your car...

Re: Installing radiator hoses

When installing new hoses I use Form A Gasket. Just a light coating on the inside of the hose. This make installation easier and helps to seal the hose when hose clamps are installed.

Re: Suicide Knob - anyone still use one ?

I have one on my 31 SW Sedan. It is caramel in color and matches the gear shift knob. It's been on the Sedan since before WW II. The car has been in the family since 1933. I've had the Sedan...

Re: Time for new tires

I have a set of Universal tires. They have around 15,000 miles. Don't show much wear. They have nylon cord, so after setting they will flat spot. A mile or two on the road and the flat spot goes...

Re: Rotella 15-40 oil?

I've been using Rotella 15-40 for several years with good results. The diesel oil has the additives that are supposed to help lubricate/protect our older type engines.

Re: Problem with replacement Tillotson carbs?

When Bratton's and Snyder's both dropped selling these repops that was good enough for me.

A better question would be; where don't they leak? When I pay over $300.00 for a new carb I should not...

Re: Problem with replacement Tillotson carbs?

They are junk!

Both Bratton's and Snyder's don't carry them anymore.

I bought one from Bratton's last spring. It leaked like a sieve; all the time.

Called Bratton's and they reported there...

Re: No Engine Block Number, WHY?

As mentioned the motor is a replacement. Many times these engines were not stamped by the dealer or repair shop that did an engine replacement. Not special, just not stamped. There are a lot of...

This choke rod through the radiator has been in place for over 50 years. I made it and installed while still in high school. In no way has it caused any damage to radiator tubes. Quessing at...

Re: Top dressing discontinued. Recommendations?

In addition to Griot's Garage, Mac's lists a top dressing.

Griot's is formulated to not only restore the color to the top but also protect and "feed" the material.

If your top is toast, then...

Re: How Do I Cover Up Whitewall Tires?

Seems like you have been given a number of options to "paint" the white walls. As some have mentioned, tire black will work well. Brattons and Snyders both sell a good quality tire black. Or try...

Re: What are cowl lights for ??

I use the cowl lights, since they are also connected to the tail lights, for day running. Use higher power bulbs in the lights and have LED tail lights. Think this may help other drivers "see" the...

Excellent. Great looking car. Nice to see a well done "A" without the white wall "clown" tires. Green wheels with black tires; very elegant.
