That looks like the retainers used on Model Ts to hold the rear axle gears onto the shaft. May be Ford part # T-2519-A ?

Keep it simple.
Eye ball it. Crank engine over by hand until timing pin goes into the dimple, then look at where the rotor is pointing and at the points. If the rotor is in the proper quadrant the...

Easy enough to test, w/the light switch on and brake pedal not depressed, one wire should be "hot". Use a test light.

The toggle lever shaft housing was loose on one side of my A. I just squared it up and gave it a couple of good tack welds, it's been good for a number of years.
