The originals had that stamped steel guard welded to the front of it. I think that's the reason for trapping dirt and moisture. The replacements don't have that, so probably will never rot.

I agree it looks like a brake line, since it has the protective sleeve on it too. And I believe it has to be the one dmsfrr showed in the picture above, since it's the only brake line that short.

"The air intake on the choke housing should be blocked off as to not permit a vacuum leak or ingesting unfiltered air. Depending on electric choke design, they may recommend a brass fitting...

Or fix the carburetor so it works as designed. Should be simple. The manual over ride secondaries is also a guaranteed hesitation/lag/backfire if you nail the throttle without a secondary squirter....

I'm sure it would work well, but would need an adaptor to fit on the small 4 barrel pattern on flathead intakes. They were made in a few different sizes from about 400 to 600 CFM.

Maybe I'm cheap or like things close to original, or a combination of both. It sounds like you have a good working Teapot carb already. Why not use that and make sure the distributor is up to snuff...

Yes, you can just use only the inner diaphragm on the dual diaphragm distributor, but any later carb will still supply way too much vacuum to the diaphragm on the '56 distributor.

It looks like it's leaner at WOT than it is when cruising and light load. That tells me you need larger power valves (more flow, not larger number valve) to richen up the wide open driving.

Maybe check to make sure you're getting a strong blue spark that can jump a fair distance.
Also, since your dwell changed a little when you increased the RPM, check to make sure there isn't play in...

Good question. If I had to guess I would say if it looks like the Frazer "F", then probably just a coincidence and not intended. Also, the Crestliner was made in '50 and '51. Not in '49.

1955 T-Birds were original with 5 gaskets stacked and stapled together under the carb. '56 T-Birds came with just one gasket under the carb originally.

Remove the bowl from the throttle body base. If it's wet from fuel in that pocket of the throttle body, either the power valve diaphragm is leaking, of the gasket seal on the power valve is leaking....

Also, you probably realize it, but the air cleaner stud on the carb is far from screwed in all the way. By about 1 1/2 ".

Whether you're talking about a two barrel or a four barrel air cleaner makes a big difference too. Both carbs were available on '55 272's.
