Re: Oil pump pressure test

Very true. My engine has probably got over 60,000 miles and still carries good oil pressure with 10W-30

Re: Oil pump pressure test

I use 10W - 30 for testing. This is the weight oil I have been using in my engines for many years.

Re: Oil pump pressure test

I have tested many pumps in my test stand. I turn the pump with a 1/2" drill motor at about 1100 rpm. Pumps show relief numbers just like JWL has indicated. I installed a ball valve on the outlet and...

Re: Notching cylinder for 4 merc crank in a 221

I don't see a problem with a 3 3/16 bore.

Re: Fenton cast iron headers

Ford made a dual exhaust system for the 1953 year. You can buy the LH exhaust manifold from Drake. As noted, the stock system performs as well as headers.

Re: Merc crank clean out plugs

Nothing wrong with the proper press in plug. They've lasted for at least 70 years in these engines.

Re: 59A flathead questions.

59A's would have had a 10" clutch.

Re: 8cm heads on 59ab block

You can put the heads on. You'll need to block a small coolant hole at the front of each head. I would not consider this as a good change. 8CM heads have pretty large combustion chambers and will...

Re: Lean MisFire

Forget the Pertronics and use one of Charlies distributors with vacuum advance. That is all I use on my rebuilds.

Re: Lean MisFire

Engines used to run with full vacuum at idle. As emissions laws came in to effect, vacuum was changed to ported to help lower emissions.

Re: Lean MisFire

The stock distributor will not advance properly with 2 - 2's. You are probably running quite retarded. You need a Charlie N Y converted distributor with manifold vacuum advance.

Re: Lean MisFire

94's are generally jetted with 49 - 51 main jets depending on your altitude. Under the conditions you describe, the idle system is still contributing. Might try opening the idle screws a bit.
