I had a very nice conversation with FB user "quickchange" (posted reply #4 above) just before the banquet. He told me that the NZ people spent about $1500 one-way to ship their Model A's to the US...

Chuck,

It all depends. If you are the high participation type, then it is a bargain. If you are the type who prefers to just hang out at hospitality and talk to people, then it is too expensive....
