Re: 64 Galaxie front drum brake issue

Doing the drum brakes in a shop used to include grinding or "arching?" The shoes to fit the drums. If there's one left in your area doing that it might be worth a shot.

Re: 1956 272 flywheel

Here's a picture of the wheel that came off my 55 bird, T-86 o/d. I have no way of knowing if it was original, but I ran it for years till I went to an aluminum wheel. IIRC, it was an 11" clutch.

Re: 1957 Fairlane 500 brakes

I don't know about Speedway, but I've had good luck with American Brake System.

http://www.abspowerbrake.com/maincatalog_frameset012.html out of CA.

Also have seen many good reports about...

Re: My Power Steering Control Valve blowed up today

If it's the seals, this is post from yblocksforever on a seal replacement kit, 3rd or so down, by DryLakesRacer. If it sounds like this might help, email me and I'll see if he can help you out with...

Re: starter or generator

You can find the regulator adjustment in the shop manual, or probably any old Motors manual. But the next thing I'd be looking at is the brushes in the generator. Changing them was one of the first...

Re: All lights work except the backup lights?

You wouldn't be the first person to find the backup light housings with no wiring. Given the background of your car probably not, but it's been know to happen. Check the trunk first and see that...

Re: Been thinking about the Thunderbird Forum

alt63bird, thanks for the information and history. I've always wondered where everything fell in the scheme of things and that all interesting.

Re: My switch replaced and rear end fixed.

The steering box is the same for power and manual. The late 56-57 3 sector box is a noticeable improvement if you've got an early 55-56 2 sector box, but probably only if it's worn and needs a...

Re: I wan't Air Conditioning in My T-Bird

Old Redneck, That looks like the Classic Air Perfect Fit unit I put in my bird. The pictures I sent you show how it sits under the dash. You can also see I used different vents.

Hills had a very...

Re: proportion valve with disc brk kit

I went and looked, just to check my memory. All the Corvette masters I found (restoration, not hot rods) ran from 15/16" bore to 1 1/8" bore. 1 1/2 is a big increase. You'll move plenty of fluid,...

Re: Key ignition Switch locked up tight

IIRC, the problem is going to be getting the bezel off with the key in place. Once the switch is out there's a button, or a hole you put a small punch, in that releases the cylinder. I think the...

Re: Rebuild a 4412 holley custom

I'm far from an expert, but I've had 2 Edelbrock AFB style and one Holley 1850 style tuned to run as blow thru carbs at fairly low boost levels, 5-7 psi in the manifold. We had to look to the...

Re: Rebuild a 4412 holley custom

There's a couple guys running F codes in vintage racing over on yblocksforever. You could join and try there. The Studebaker guys (I think they were mostly AFB's) might also have a lead. Going to...

Re: 64 Galaxie - raise front seat

I've raised and tilted seats with blocks under the track. I used oak, kiln dried, from the lumber store. Easier to deal with than aluminum with the tools I had.

I've had good luck with Flex-a-Lite fan controllers.variable temp settings, radiator probe or manifold sensor, provisions to turn on with A/C and wiring kits. They had some bad ones years ago...

Re: 1955 ford Ranch Wagon Radiator Question

I've got a 55 Thunderbird with a/c. It has a BeCool aluminum radiator with a 16" puller fan and a full radiator shroud. IMO the shroud is the big deal. It need to be properly sealed and the fan...

Re: Does this shift linkage logo look familiar?

One additional thought. Guys are having a hard time finding the aftermarket shift kits for the o/d transmissions. If its an o/d, and mounted to the transmission, that's a plus. If it's cobbled up...

Re: Does this shift linkage logo look familiar?

Wrong picture, and I don't seem to be able to delete it.

Trying again. From Concours Parts catalog. All the aftermarket shifters I had mounted to the transmission, not the floor. That doesn't...

Re: Converting a 6V dash cluster to 12V

This is an old but accurate post about how the King Seeley gauges work. It doesn't address the voltage change, but you might find it helpful if you need to trouble shoot things down the line.

Re: Isky E4 cam

I just looked at the Isky catalog on line, and it doesn't seem to show the old designations. I'd guess it's still there somewhere. Back in the 60's my first y block, a bored 312 with 11.25:1...

Re: My t-Bird had a noise in rear end?

The trucks also used that rear end, but had larger axles and bearings. That's what I found under my 55 bird. I thought the lousy weld on the perches were just "Tuesday morning work after a 3 day...

Re: Vlaue of a 390

It wasn't that long ago I looked up the weight on a 390, and IIRC, it was only about 25-30 lbs more than a Yblock. Throw an aluminum intake and a set of headers on and there's not much weight...

Re: General Info

It's not just the mounting ears, the bell is deeper, and the truck transmission has a longer input shaft. I think the front bearing on the trans is also larger, so the bell has a large opening (and...
