Re: Tire balancing

The main problem with the bubble balancer is that the A wheels aren't located on the hub by the center hole (which is what the balancer relies on). Instead, they are located by the lug nuts only! I...

Re: Whitewalls

I admire the look of fat whitewalls on Packards, LaSalles, Cords, & Duesenbergs, because that's how they came. However, Model A's never came from Henry that way, and with the skinnier tires, the...

Re: Gonna drive every day

I'd suggest you find an Otwell Health Heater, which replaces the exhaust manifold. I'm very pleased with mine, especially since I live up near Lake Superior!

The standard taillight bulb was only 3 cp. Our favorite vendors have 6 cp & 10 cp versions available.

Re: high Speed not so good

Just a long shot, but did you happen to put in a modern points plate in your distributor? When I did, my motor ran well lightly loaded, but was anemic when it tried to develop power....A new "old"...

Re: So you think the fuse on the starter will protect you?

Re-Think Again....

Ok, let's continue this line of thinking. Say a short occurs anywhere after the fuse and the fuse blows. There was obviously a very short duration of high (>30 amp) current...

Re: Brake Rod Rattle

Are you running Houdaille shocks? I had a problem with the RF brake rod rattling against the Houdaille adjuster. If this is the case, you'll see marks in the paint where they hit.

Re: Is there a "cure" for ingition noise overpowering a CB radio?

jmeckel has nailed this one. Pitch the CB's and use the fm family radios. No more having to mount a non-period radio and antenna, and no power leads to connect. The family radios are cheap, compact,...

Re: Water pump modification

I put on a new leakless ball bearing water pump when I installed my 6:1 head. The instructions clearly explain the need for grinding down the impeller blades. Basically, newer repro radiators have...

Re: RE-VIST....Who makes the "Best" Tubes????

I installed a new set of Lester tires (all 5) & used Bratton's tubes. No failures, no leaks, no issues..... I don't even have to keep topping them up...very happy with them!

Rear hub axle seal

Question: After hand greasing the rear wheel bearings, how deep is the new seal supposed to go? Should it only go in far enough so the retainer clip goes back in, or should it be pressed up against...

They also have it in satin finish as P/N: 10340Z

Re: painting radiator

Eastwood sells rattlecans of Radiator Black paints, both Gloss & Satin. I think the satin looks better on an A. $14.99 a can. Go lightly.

Re: Win a freshly rebuilt Model A engine with insert bearings

Please excuse the ignorance, but does "one piece bearings" mean babbit?

Update: Sorry, I didn't pay attention to the title, but how are inserts one-piece?

Re: U HAUL Trailer use

I used their auto-hauler & it was great. It tracked stably & the surge brakes worked well. I pulled my 29 Tudor home using my 6 cylinder Chevy 1/2 ton. Very satisfied.

Re: Dog bones (not for rat terriers)

No. It's a clear, silicone based grease used to stop corrosion on electromechanical connections, like connectors & switch contacts. It can be found at any autoparts store. Another similar product is...

Re: Dog bones (not for rat terriers)

I think a lot of the rubber wear is just lack of lubrication. I installed mine using dielectric grease, so they can move rather than just being flexed constantly. This was the only lube I have on...

Re: generator or alternator

Positive or negative ground? Doesn't really matter..both work fine. The problem of standardization in the 50's came about because of solid state devices, i.e., transistors & diodes. The old vibrator...

Re: generator or alternator

Hi Bob-A,

The Wagner alternator has several features that make it look MORE like a generator, not identical to it. It is a single brush Delco alternator with a more cylindrical housing, mostly due...

I'm sure "machine girl" must be amazed by all the suggestions. I'm a relative newbie myself, but am a retired electrical engineer. My take is as follows:

I like originality as much as possible....

Re: garyaodell

Chances are you were using a digital type multimeter, which is quite susceptible to noisy voltages. The sparking at the commutator brushes probably caused this erroneous reading. Try using an old...
