Re: Another headlight wire disconnect question

The three wires should pull out together with the slotted guide "plug" from the socket. If not, you should disassemble the bucket to see what the problem is. Easy to do - unlatch the ring at the...

Re: Generator 3rd Brush Adjustment Explanation

Short answer, Scott, is yes, no modification. Just change the battery; cutout will work. What won't work are 6V bulbs, coil, horn and electric wipers.

Best not to add to an old thread, start a...

Re: Model A generator problem

A diode cutout won't be hurt by polarizing the generator. EVR - perhaps.

Problem could also be a bad battery. Check resting voltage and electrolyte levels.

Re: Model A generator problem

Check battery connection to frame, and check ground path from frame through engine mounts to generator. Bad ground connection between battery and generator can cause weird problems.

Re: Turn signal light

Bigger bulb, 21 CP - Brake
Smaller bulb, 6 CP - Tail

TS switch intercepts the brake wire at the switch and splits it between the two brake lights.

Re: photo on new Snyder catalog

I for one think it is a lovely depiction of the Model A in a springtime environment, despite the minor inconsistencies. Perfect for the catalog cover. If any of you chuckleheads think you can do a...

So who sells that radiator shell with the horn conduit on the right?

Re: 20 or 30 Amp Fuse?

An explanation is in order of what the fuse is intended for.

The fuse is intended to protect the battery from discharging through a stuck cutout when the engine shuts down. It isn't in the path...

Re: 6 to 12 Volt & Neg ground

Quick and easy to use a resistor on the 6V horn. A resistor could be used on a wiper motor, but it would get warm with continuous operation.

Re: Light Bar Repaint Question

ahirt has a good solution. The method I use is to clamp a wire to each conduit inside the radiator shell and run to the forward hood latch screw under the frame. Use a star washer to cut through...

Re: Horn problems

Horn button contact may be crusty. Connect a solid ground to the horn button side of the motor (the side that doesn't burn your fingers). If it spins, you need to clean up the button contact.

Re: Ammeter - Needle

If there's more than 15A through the meter either direction there's something wrong. It measures only battery current. 20-20 is appropriate for any model A vehicle, unless the wiring has been...

Re: Hood supports

Not really. Easy to ask our phone, "how much is 5mm in inches?"

Most accurate is to say "This much" with thumb and forefinger, but that's tough to express in print. :D

Re: Heard on Jeopardy tonight

Vertical integration has probably been perfected by the Japanese, with government encouragement. Note their car manufacturers are not experiencing a chip shortage.

Re: Generator not charging - maybe ?

That's a diode cutout. Hard to sell anything "electronic" for $20.

Recheck your voltages. Gen should be .6v-1.2v above battery side. Difference is forward voltage drop of the diode.

It looks...

Re: Repeated Comments About Sacramento Ford Wiring

Heavier wire - no. Heavier insulation - yes, less chafing to cause a short. Heavier wire reduces wire resistance, but not so much you would notice. Connections are more stable, tend to last longer.

Re: Fan Blade orientation

Looks backwards to me - smooth side should be towards rear. Will pull air either way though. Aluminum blades are less likely to fatigue and fly apart; two blades are enough.

Re: Head Lights on 1929 Model A

I suggest adding a ground wire between the conduits and frame rails. Resistance in mechanical connections through bar and fenders lowers voltage to the bulbs.

Re: Generator not charging - maybe ?

I agree it acts like a failed internal VR, but a shot field or armature winding could do the same thing.
