Re: newly rebuilt and a knock

Listening to see which general area it's coming from from seems like sound advice.

One afternoon my car sounded like it was trying to throw a rod, or several. Could not pinpoint it with a...

Re: Galvanizing a Brass Screw

Most welding shops sell cold galvenizing coating in a spray can. Never tried it on brass though.

Re: No Air Cleaner?

Sounds like either a dust collector or a backfire arrester, I've seen one, but don't recall what it was exactly. If it's not hurting anything might as well run it. I have nightmares about a ball of...

Re: No Air Cleaner?

Interesting, does it have louvers punched in one side?

Re: No Air Cleaner?

Personally I like running an Air Maze, if that is in fact what you have, I'd keep it. I didn't notice any difference on mine with or without, again that's my personal opinion. I generally run around...

Re: Gas Gauge Installation secret?

I used grease on mine, the gaskets, threads, glass edges and slip rings, much easier to get it tight with less resistance.

Re: Stop Leak

When I must use it I like black pepper. Depending on your leak a couple spoonfuls should do it. When you fix the leak later it washes right out, it's definitely my go to for anything with a heater...

Re: Boat Anchor

Hahaha! That's great.

My favorite Red Green quote is "The fastest way to irritate a stranger is to drive the speed limit."

Re: Boat Anchor

Sarcasm aside......
Is this problem a recent development? Or has it always been this way?
First, is it a low power issue, or something keeping the car from coasting freely? ( See post #2)
I would...

Re: Boat Anchor

Through much research, I can attest that the Model A's performance is severely lacking when operated as a raft, boat, or submarine. I humbly suggest enjoying ones Model A on dry land.

As for...

Re: Points (ignition) file

The last one of those files I purchased was not a good purchase, wore out with minimal use, back to using a hand me down from grandpa.

However, an emery board nail file works very well, and if...

Re: Champagne

Personally, I'm curious to know what type of failure it was. Did it get soft and fall off? Or break into a thousand tiny pieces now hopelessly lost in the fuel tank?

Re: Battery Issue for a new owner

Again, not dumb. It's a learning experience, just like anything else. Soon you will probably learn all kinds of things that look simple in hindsight.

On your fancy new battery disconnect, if it's...

Re: Battery Issue for a new owner

Might familiarize yourself with the headlight switch also, lights could have been left on in the daylight and not noticed, especially if kids ( or curious adults) have been playing in the car. If I...

Re: How to clean our inside cast sediment bowl?

Sounds like a candidate for the molasses solution.

Mix 3 parts water to 1 part molasses, submerge the part. If it's not too bad an overnight soak may be enough, if it's real bad it can take days....

Re: Diesel Conversion

Thanks for posting, very interesting to see!
My mother had one of those diesel Jeep's when I was a kid, ran good and very efficient. It ran circles around my father's diesel ranger. Very...

Re: Finding Correct Size Battery

I remember seeing script batteries in the Mac's and possibly the Snyder's catalogs, but I've also heard the longevity was not great. I believe it was Mac's also offers a battery cover, that is a...

Re: Dumb Question About Nut/Bolt Diameters

If I understand your question correctly,
A nut or bolt is sized according to thread size, a 1/4" bolt will fit in a 1/4" hole. Now a bolts wrench size is measured from flat to flat on the hex, a...

If looking for a 6V, most Tractor Supply stores I've been in had one on the shelf.

Re: Waxing or Polishing 1929 Ford Model A

Water spots are definitely a concern here also, I use synthetic chamois after each wash, and for touch ups in between. Works on everything, chrome, glass, whatever. Just keep the dust rinsed out.

Re: New-to-me '29, Butchered Fenders?

You nailed it. Warm air off the exhaust is directed through the firewall. Stock they did not have a heater, so if you have one, it's an aftermarket. There are several variations on the same idea,...

Re: New-to-me '29, Butchered Fenders?

It always amazes me how resilient these little A's were to being left for dead in a barn somewhere. I hope you have lots of fun with it. Driven a few with a saddle blanket thrown over the seat...
