Re: Speed and Brakes?

What is missing in this discussion is a recognition of the change in performance of cars as they have developed from the days when the Model A was new.

The Model A was likely very safe on the...

Re: Car Died, and Then Came Smoke

It appears whoever restored the car used a screw that was too long by about 1/16 inch. I drove the car enough for the paint on the generator to wear away. All other things check out OK.

Re: Car Died, and Then Came Smoke

Problem solved. At least I am fairly sure. I just kept moving downstream from behind the dash panel to the terminal box and down to the cutout.

As soon as I separated the wires from the cutout...

Re: Car Died, and Then Came Smoke

I hope the problem is not the cut out because it has been intermittent and with my luck they will show open, until the issue repeats itself.

If I don't find the problem I intend to replace...

Re: Car Died, and Then Came Smoke

Thanks for the help. This morning I will be going over it with a fine tooth comb. I have no intention of putting it back together until I can satisfy myself I have isolated the problem.

Re: Car Died, and Then Came Smoke

While I agree with the fact you cannot buy the kind of excitement a leaky VALVE combined with a faulty electric system provides, the valve allows fuel to continue to flow into the carb after it is...

Re: Car Died, and Then Came Smoke

Forgot to mention, no wipers on the car, no cowl lamps, pretty basic.

Re: Car Died, and Then Came Smoke

Tomorrow I am taking all the advice and will follow through. The wires show signs of overheating at the ammeter, in the terminal box, and in the loom going to the starter switch and over to the...

Re: Car Died, and Then Came Smoke

No continuity between ammeter terminals to ground (ammeter case) despite the amount of melted plastic. Continuity to ground on driver's side of terminal block post (the one with the black wire to the...

Car Died, and Then Came Smoke

First the scenario: The car has exhibited on occasion a stumbling, either a bucking of the engine or some backfiring. It might last a few seconds, and then go away. I went through everything, from...

This Forum Works

I recently bought a Model A that needed some help. It looked good, but it needed a little TLC to get the engine right.

I previously had two other Model A's, both 1929 Tudors and I know I worked on...

Re: Title--What does your state do??

I just registered a 1928 Phaeton in TN and I had no bill of sale, but I did have a title that did not have the selling price listed or anyplace for the value.

The DMV lady accepted what I told her...

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil increases engine HP?

The data is kept in a safe along with the 250 MPG carb we all have heard about.

Re: Obtaining the best help.

We all read and interpret the different word in a different fashion. If we read things exactly the same we would not have 9 folks in black robes telling us what our constitution says.

Re: Virus Warning

You guys are very polite. Usually I don't allow robocalls or telemarketers to get more than a few words out before I hang up. No conversation, no listening to what they have to say, no response other...

Re: Why So Few (Apparent) Sheet Metal Makers?

Re: Life is too short, use and enjoy your cars

Most people will wish they could do something yet they will never take the first steps. There is always some way for them to rationalize why. They either didn't have enough money, or time, or skills,...

Re: Life is too short, use and enjoy your cars

It is not where we live that has changed, but how drivers have changed. Driving too fast, tailgating, texting, lane changing, etc. have all influenced where and how we drive.

Re: Powder coat color?

Powder coating is formulated for specific applications. If the color faded or it chalked it is likely it was an epoxy and not a material that will hold up against the sun.

We went through tons of...

We have a very expensive RV and have had a dash cam for years for liability protection. It is no longer a question of if we need a dash cam, it is now a question of which one.

Society has created...

Re: Briggs Body Number. No such thing?

Doesn't there just come a time when you just call the VIN the engine number and move on? If needed they sell punch sets so you can create your own number.

I know what road rage is, and I assume...
