Re: Running board anti squeak.

Great point, all of the anti-squeak that I have encountered (frequently between metal and wood) was friction-tape consistency BUT was saturated with some tar-like substance. I may experiment with...

Re: Acts like it's starving for fuel.

Have run into 3 of these in a week! While standing at the carb and with the engine idling, slowly close the choke plate almost all the way but keep it running, then start opening the throttle - if it...

I would second this and suggest everyone shopping for Model A and Model T parts wherever you are contact Sammy Guthrie of Arizona Model A (480)782-0266 because his service is second to none.

Re: Zenith mystery again.

I think what you are experiencing is not a feature of the Zenith carb, but of modern gasoline. Your modern gasoline may have more or less alcohol in it than mine and behave differently in Zenith...

Re: Rear Axle removal to inspect gears

Just remember with old Ford Banjo rear ends, and ONLY old Ford rear ends, "Left is right, and right is wrong".

Re: Proper Head Installation

Not necessarily germane but I acquired a rebuilt and maybe never run engine with perfect 2-thread exposure of all of the studs which were not originals. I removed the head to install a new Brumfield...

Re: Pencil filter

Just be aware that the pencil filter is a maintenance item. I am replacing a lot of them that went in during the first wave of 7 - 10 years ago (? not sure when they first appeared)... most are...

Re: Noise in Flywheel area

There were bad throwout bearings on the market for many years and you may have wound up with one. I have a tranny installed with new gears, shafts and bearings that shifts like a dream however the...

Re: Terriable backfiring

Just fixed one like yours. Idled great, would run several quarters of a mile then sputter and backfire. Then start right up and repeat as you waited to get back into traffic.

Gas flow to carb was...

Re: Tips to select good Model A wheels

Jack up a front wheel, remove it. Mount a prospective wheel. Place gauges to show runout on front of rim and on outside of rim. For gauges all you need are rods mounted in a base so that you can...

Re: Transmission Work Stand

I do the same, with a hole in the 2 X 12 sose I can direct solvent used to preliminarily clean the gearbox (before disassembly) into a metal pan below for waste removal.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Found A Use For WD-40?

Used to use it to displace salt water from fishing reels and tackle when fresh water was not immediately available or after rinsing with fresh water. Now use it as a cleaner to tidy up under the hood.

Re: Just FYI

Whatever you can pull to with about an 18" lever (wrench, crank cheater, etc.) in gear with the parking brake on so she don't run over Mom and you should be good!

Re: Split New Inner Tubes

Do your split tubes say "Made in DenmarK"? If so, they were not new when you bought them and were made for tractors years ago. They were dumped in the USA and as far as I know have a 100% failure...

Re: Install gas/spark lever

Every original column that I have disassembled had pieces of rubber tubing on the rods, definitely not felt and many of these are 7 toofuss columns so the bulletins may say felt but felt was not used...

Re: "Waffled" rivets?????

I suspect that all waffle head rivets were set cold with a pneumatic or hydraulic squeezer, nothing hand held or bucked like the tools we must use today. Perhaps the waffle aided in providing the...

Re: warm model A motor begins to stutter

I maintain a car that behaves similarly; engine was "newly rebuilt". I found that getting everything perfect in timing, carburetion, and distributor function (as tested in another vehicle) helped but...

Re: Water or Antifreeze ?

Please use antifreeze. I prefer standard ethylene glycol types that must be diluted with water, they have been used successfully on cast iron engines for many years. I am unaware of any advantages to...

Re: The Restorer needs to fact check its articles!!!

I absolutely prefer the original setup and use it. But if you must repair a car that has the "modern" points and condenser, go to a real auto parts store (or you r favorite online source but not any...

Re: Steering column jacket removal??

If yours is a 7-tooth (sector) column, the jacket or steering column tube is not removable from the lower gear housing. If it has a two tooth sector, there is a clamp at the bottom of the steering...
