I've had good luck using Armaflex insulation - available in 3' x 4' sheets from any HVAC supply house. Easy to cut and the 3/4" thick type does a good job of deadening sound - used it above...

Priming a 1952 F1?

Short of adding an electric fuel pump for start-up purposes, do any of you Barners prime your flatheads for that initial start after vehicle sits a day or two? How much gas do you use, etc.????

Do any of you know of a 6 volt battery with higher cranking amps (CCA) than a red-top Optima at 800 CCA????

ClassTech in Bend, OR, has a good wiring harness for 6 volt Fords - put one in my '52 F1 and it is great -good diagrams, etc. 800 874-9981

Have a 6 volt positive grd. Pertronix set-up in my 1952 F1 - with a Flamethrower coil - works GREAT and has for about 3 or 4 years now. No way would I go back to points and condenser, etc.

Good connections, heavy cabling, a 1 wire alternator and a Brakelighter stop light in rear window make my 6 volt system function just fine for me!!!! Have a 12 volt neg. grd. radio mounted in glove...

Battery drain??

Is there an easy or simple way to check to see if there is a slight electrical drain on battery? If everything is turned off, is there a way to check for a "short"?

Good option is to install a "Brakelighter" - strip of LED lights you mount in rear window - at a good height for easy visibility - come in 6 volt.

I'd use as heavy (or heavier) for the ground - it really makes a difference!

6 volt is fine as long as all connections are clean and tight and ground wires the same!

Octane level is actually too high for your engine unless you have super good compression. I found on my '52 F1 (V8) that it runs better on regular than on high test.

I put on a new wiring harness in 1999 but stayed with 6 volt - added a one-wire alternator later (Certified Auto Electric - Bedford, Ohio). As long as you have clean and tight connections, 6 volt...
