Re: How do I adjust the play in my Steering?

Not at all. Sometimes I won't even answer a post if the guy doesn't even tell you the most basic information about what he is working with.
I just love the ones that go all into telling about their...

Re: sun visors , Right and Left ??

BTW, once you get this figured out, plaster that spring behind the bracket with lubriplate prior to installing the visors in the car.

Re: sun visors , Right and Left ??

The silver 3-hole brackets themselves are symmetrical and will mount either R or L.
The question is if it is possible to rotate the arm toward the side windows regardless which one you put on there....

Re: How do I adjust the play in my Steering?

Ummm...Dobie I am pretty sure his Bird has the power steering assist in which the drag link is integral with the PS control valve. So disregard the adjustment of drag link. That is a standard...

Re: Got hoses hooked up wrong on power steering

Unrelated to your specific problem, but another weird thing that can happen is if the centering spring (under the control valve cap) is not adjusted properly, the steering wheel will turn one way or...

Re: 9" dif for 55 fairlane

I am using a '57, 9" rear end on my '55 Courier sedan delivery wagon. No modifications at all. I believe the '57, 58 and '59 banjo housing rear ends are same and should fit.

Re: Constant Horn

No. The bottom plate is stationary with respect to the horn ring assembly. The center metal plate however is a "floating" plate, held down by the thick rubber bumper under the plastic center emblem....

Re: Constant Horn

Many decades ago, when I went to replace the plastic center emblem on my '55 Fairlane, I noticed that the rubber standoff behind it was hard as a rock. I found an old spark plug boot (the one that...

Re: 55 Ford Ranch wagon Door latch Question

I am not 100% sure, but I think those springs are the same springs that are used for the interior door handle return spring. If so, those are available from some of the repro parts suppliers. If you...

Re: 55 Ford ranch wagon/ Sunvisors

Be careful when buying used sunvisors from someone. Ask to see close-up photos of the mounting bracket. The '55 sedan models have a triangular shaped silver colored mounting bracket. The '55 Crown...

Re: Strange "Clanking Noise" at Idle

One more thing to check. Look at the generator mounting bracket to see if the bolt that holds it to the side of engine is missing. If it is, that bracket will sway back and forth a little bit and hit...

Re: Re-drill Brake Drums

Actually, the Ford wheels had a larger center hole to accomodate the larger hub size on the Ford brake drums. The Merc hub tapers down and uses a smaller wheel bearing.
Nevertheless, I would not...

Re: 55 Ford Ranch wagon Door latch Question

Looks like I caught this part of the discussion too late, but yes you can remove the latch without removing the window glass. Once the latch mounting screws are removed, the latch needs to be pushed...

Re: 55 Ford Ranch wagon Door latch Question

That spring interacts with the lock-wheel on the backside. That is what keeps the star-wheel from backing off once the door is closed. The star-wheel on the outside is interlocked with the lock-wheel...

Re: Stop light switch used for safety starter switch?

In my view, the original idea the poster had of using the brake light switch to enable the start circuit defeats the whole purpose of the starter neutral switch.
The starter neutral switch had a...

Re: 55 Ford Ranch wagon Door latch Question

Many years ago, my driver side latch had the same problem with the star wheel barely hanging by a thread. I took the door apart and removed the latch. When you turn it over on the backside, you will...

Re: 55 Ford Ranch wagon Door latch Question

Yes if you want to swap the old style latches for safety latches you can remove the latch assembly from the door and the striker plate. They are a direct bolt-in without any modifications.
But you...

Re: headliner

I would not recommend wasting your time trying to salvage an old headliner. The material itself may be weakened by years of extreme heat and cold, which will make tearing it easier.
I have done all...

Re: Stop light switch used for safety starter switch?

Funny you should mention that. A few days ago, my starter neutral switch failed, so I opened the hood, unhooked the two red wires at the bullet connectors and plugged the two together. Doing this...

Re: Cab mount section ahead of firewall on 56 fairlane

There's a name I haven't heard in about 35 years. Still got one of his business cards. Those pieces you got still look pretty structurally sound. Make sure you get all the old floor off that bottom...

Re: 55-56 Bell Housing Question

That is correct. Any '50's Fordomatic or cruiseomatic is a direct bolt-on to either 215/223 I-block 6 or any Ford Y-block engine automatic bellhousing. These transmissions also can be swapped on...

Re: 55 Ford Ranch wagon Door latch Question

If the one he is offering is for a '56, I would not get it. The '55 door latches have a full-depth star-wheel, The '56 door latch mechanism is the same, but this was the year they converted to safety...
