Re: Any Model A Mechanics in Nebraska?

The Cornhusker model A club hasn't been much help. One guy gave me a couple of names. One of those only works on engines and the other I'm not sure really exists.

Any Model A Mechanics in Nebraska?

Desperately need a mechanic to help with a differential problem. Either take it and fix it or let me bring it over and tell me what to do while it sits in the back of my pickup.
Videos, manuals, and...

Transmission front shaft

If all you want to do is pull the front shaft out of a 3 speed, what do you have to do? I think it is called the "main gear" but whatever you call it, it's the one that drives from the pressure plate.

Re: Differential part 2

They were off. Nothing but threads on the end of the shaft.

Differential part 2

Just an update. You may remember my previous post on a model A differential on a speedster with differential problems. Disconnected everything at the rear axle and the coupler at the front of the...

Re: Teach me about differentials.

First of all, I am checking if the driveshaft is turning at the speedometer cable "port" at the front of the torque tube, so the fact that it has a dual high really has nothing to do with it, other...

Re: Teach me about differentials.

Shouldn't have said pumped up. Just depressed the brake pedal.

Re: Teach me about differentials.

I took the speedometer cable attachment off at the front of the torque tube, and I can see that the driveshaft is not turning when you turn the rear wheel. However, jack up either rear wheel and it...

Re: Teach me about differentials.

It's the same rig, however, something is disconnected between the rear wheel and driveshaft. It's not even turning the back of the dual high.

Re: Teach me about differentials.

Neither axle key seems to be sheared. It's supposed to be at a show this weekend, so I guess it is going to be a trailer queen. Then I guess I will be doing exploratory surgery.

Re: Teach me about differentials.

Checked one keyway this morning before work. I'll check the other later. Are broken axles common on model A's? The engine I am using actually has less power than the original A engine.

Teach me about differentials.

Got a car. Actually more of s speedster but it has a model A rear axle and brakes. Last time I drove it, I let off the clutch, and nothing happened. Messed with the clutch linkage a bit, though I...

3 speed versus 4 speed

Can someone tell me about how much longer a model A four speed pickup/truck transmission is, front to back than a three speed. Not the clutch housing, just the tranny itself.
Thank you

Re: Rear end ratio-gear question

I was trying to make a comparison. The way it is geared and the RPM of the engine make driving it on a trailer comparable to driving some other cars on a trailer in high gear. In my estimation, if...

Re: Rear end ratio-gear question

Try driving a car on a trailer in second or third gear and you will get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Rear end ratio-gear question

I have a speedster with a model A rear axle that I am trying to slow down a little. The present rear axle is the standard 3.78. If I should find a 41 tooth ring gear, is it a direct replacement? Is...

Re: Making an A axle steer easier

I'm more of a tractor guy than car, so you'll have to do some splainin to me. When I jack up the front axle, what am I looking for besides obvious looseness in the king pins?

Re: Making an A axle steer easier

I'm using A tie rod ends. The balls on the tie rods and drag link from the A are the same size as the John Deere.
Is there a general rule of thumb as to how tight the tie rod ends should be? Do...

Making an A axle steer easier

Now that winter has set in, I'd like to do some work on this thing to make it a little more drivable. One of the problems is that it steers hard. Part of the problem is likely the Deere steering...

Re: Front hydraulic brake conversion.

Posed the same question on a speedster site and a guy linked an article on using hydraulic wheel cylinders from an older Mazda to activate the original A brake shoes.
