Re: Yes,there IS such a critter as a factory FOM flat 6 Ford!

I wonder if those tests were ran with the car in drive,or if they started out in low gear and then shifted to drive?

Lots of people don't seem to know the FOM was actually a 3 speed auto that...

Re: Yes,there IS such a critter as a factory FOM flat 6 Ford!

Nothing wrong with 4drs,and a 4dr that runs and drives beats the hell out of a convertible in parts.

Re: Yes,there IS such a critter as a factory FOM flat 6 Ford!

Kinda like the old "saw" in the army about secrets. Pass one on to one guy,and by the time the 6th guy is whispering it to someone else,it has no relation to the first version.

I doubt anybody...

What more IS there to see? You see the transmission casting numbers, the output shaft, the drive shaft nose, and the data plate on the side of the transmission.

Thank you VERY much!

I will read it and try to learn more once I get a little more rested.

Re: Yes,there IS such a critter as a factory FOM flat 6 Ford!

Ok,I have now given up on posting photos of the 51 flat 6 FOM parts. I got one photo down to 231kb,and got a message it was too big to post.

Thanks to chemo brain,I am just not as sharp as I...

Re: Yes,there IS such a critter as a factory FOM flat 6 Ford!

Ok,since I will never figure this out,if someone will PM me their email address,I will send them photos and descriptions, and they can then post the stuff for me.

Thanks in advance,
LazarusLong

Re: Yes,there IS such a critter as a factory FOM flat 6 Ford!

Thanks,Mark. I don't remember seeing any "snark" back when I was posting here before, and am genuinelly surprised to see people sniping at me now because I provided some information they don't like,or...

Re: Yes,there IS such a critter as a factory FOM flat 6 Ford!

Guys,I did take photos of the flat 6 FOM parts today, and then somehow deleted them from my phone while trying to post them.

Hoping I have a better "chemo brain day" tomorrow.

I hope this thing gets bigger when you click it. Not very computer literate, but this is a list of the parts for a 1951 Ford Ford-O-Matic transmission, both 6 cylinder and V-8.

I am...

Re: Yes,there IS such a critter as a factory FOM flat 6 Ford!

You were wrong because they WERE offered to the public.

I also vaguely recall reading somewhere that the sold so poorly,at one point Ford just scrapped the unsold flat 6 FOM shoeboxes.

Re: Yes,there IS such a critter as a factory FOM flat 6 Ford!

Yup,FOM is shorthand for Ford-0-Matic,although it is usually abbreviated as F-O-M.

I abbreviated even that here because I didn't think anyone here would be confused by it.

My apologies.

Re: Yes,there IS such a critter as a factory FOM flat 6 Ford!

Mr tubman,your understanding is perfect.

I HAD to post about it here because I know of no other place with such dedicated shoebox fans, and as I had mentioned before, even the people at the...

Re: Yes,there IS such a critter as a factory FOM flat 6 Ford!

I'm weird. I bought the Vicky because it had a FOM trans, and I could get by with it until I could find the "right" 6 cyl biz coupe and the parts to convert it to auto trans.

Yes,I know a C4 CAN...

Yes,there IS such a critter as a factory FOM flat 6 Ford!

And I FINALLY found one and bought it all. Come to find out, even the tailshaft and the driveshaft are different than those on the flat V-8 FOMs.

Can't say this stuff is rare, but a couple of...

Re: Where can I buy wind wing glass?

Have you checked with the usual suspects, like Carpenter,MAC's,etc, etc, etc?

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

Why can't I blame Champions,when I buy 8,put them in a stock 51 Ford.and 3 of them die within a week?

Switched over to Autolite and never had another problem.

I have seen them fail in...

226 flat 6 Ford cast iron headers

WTB a set of cast iron headers for the 226 flat 6 in my 51 biz coupe.

Not sure if these headers for a passenger car will work in a PU,or vice versa.

Would also like to buy 3x1 carb linkages.
