I like the shift lever because I can shift from 2nd-over to hi direct at the same time with one hand.

Maybe now would be a good time to replace the water pump. I had a similar situation when I fixed a blown head gasket. I changed heads to a "Police head", new leakless water pump, and new aluminum...

I cut a slot in them with a hacksaw and remove them with a screwdriver. Works great!

Often overlooked is lubricating the hood hinges. This probably caused the problems.
When working on our clubs As, we often find dry hinges. A couple drops of oil at each location fixes the problem....

I have been doing the following for years and never had a problem. . .
You know that drop of oil on the dipstick when you check the oil? Put it on the pump shaft at the front and rear of the water...

I didn't know that and I have a Vicky OD in my Cabriolet. Works fine.

Been running Brassworks radiators in both my As for 15 years and never had a leak problem. Or any problem with heating.
Only problem I had was my cars ran too cool! Had to add 160 deg thermostats. ....

My clamps are installed per the manual, falling outward. To prevent scratching the paint, I put black electrical tape an the handle to keep this from happening. Hard to see and easily removed. Works...

Reply #6 is what I use. I don't want to overload the waterpump bearing.

Also, check the restoration standards for radiator hose clamp orientation (Chapter 3).

Finally replaced all the tires on the '30 Cabbie with new Goodyears.
Changed the oil in the engine and rearend.
Odometer just turned 70,000 miles. Seemed like a good time to do some maintenance...
