Re: 56 tbird bellcrank assembly
Kultulz, regarding my post, and this is from memory not from looking it up in the manual.
The o/d throttle linkage was set to reach WOT at the carb as the throttle pedal contacted but did not...

Re: Fire extinguisher
Kultulz, I remember those little chrome extinguishers. Too small to do any good, but we used to say "if it won't go, chrome it"
As to the other comments.........therapy perhaps?

Fire extinguisher
This is worth a read, you can reach your own conclusions. But it does remind us a fire extinguisher should be in all the cars.

Re: 67 ford f-250 rims
I found this quote is a "for sale" add, with the wheels on a 67. Don't know if it helps, but some research should give the available widths.
"In place of the factory steel wheels are 16-inch,...

Re: 56 tbird bellcrank assembly
That's a good link Kultulz. It's the first I realized they were reproducing the spring loaded link for the o/d. I've got one of those in the parts box from when I had the T-86 o/d in the car...

Re: Disk brakes on 55 ford sedan
The Granada spindles lower the car IIRC. I think most of the Thunderbird suppliers sell kits, pretty much like I installed 20 years ago. There's a spacer that goes on the splindle and allows a...

Re: Finally running after 50 years
I used one of these Lokar units. 2 bolts thru firewall, 1 above for the cable. Part of my reason is the floor pan was so rough under the original throttle pedal. T-5, so no other linkage or...

Re: Brakes
I used classic disc brakes (the link above) for the rear disc on the Dana 44 on my bird. After a couple other kits that didn't work for sxxx. They used late model Ford caliper, custom brackets,...

Re: Finally running after 50 years
Lookin good. Glad to see the progress. Someone on here (likely K) will have the exploded diagram for the linkage. From that you'll get a part number. Many years ago I replaced the teapot on my 55...

Re: Tires
I ran a set of those on my bird for years. I put Coker bias look radials on my roadster. They balanced fine and are round. Seems to be hit and miss these days. Most of my hot rod tires were done...

Re: Will this steering wheel work?
I went and looked at the Summit site for Grant steering wheels. They no longer show the "installation" kit for the 55 bird, but they used to make it. For 56, they do, but it's different part...

Re: New Owner
I hate to pile on, but I'm afraid you really need to have a look inside it. A 312 has some value, and mainly in the crankshaft. You really don't want to gall it bad enough it won't turn for new...

Re: Drivers door latch
It's also possible the plate in the door jamb has drifted out of adjustment. Those 55's were marginal, one of the reasons they used a new deeper design on the 56's. Seems to me there's also some...

Re: Pod on Dash, R&I in place?
I'm also confused also about the "FE 302" is it perhaps a Fuel Injection engine?
Either way, that old wiring has got to near the end of its time. Even in wet Seattle where connection corrosion...

Re: window channel runs
6-7 years ago we parked my 55 bird next to my buddy's 56 Nomad and spent the winter doing the window channels, lift mechanism, door latches, etc. Almost all the bit and pieces come from restoration...

Re: 312 Y Block valve cover studs
My comments were to do what K's drawing shows, with the exception of a nut below the washer/grommet to give it something to hold it up and in position. Maybe that's not needed, as I said I've never...

Re: 312 Y Block valve cover studs
Not my idea. Best guess is it came from the y-nota-y-block build by Doc Frohmander. But half the time I can't remember lunch yesterday.

Re: 312 Y Block valve cover studs
Years ago I read an article that suggested running a nut down the stud, putting the rubber washer on upside down inside the valve cover (seated on the new nut) then placing the valve cover in place. ...

Re: 56' Power Seat Problem
A 56 Ford/Merc should be 12 volts. 10 volts under load might not manage a seat relay, I've never checked. If you've got 12 volts at the switch, and 10 under load, try running a long wire from the...

Re: 56' Power Seat Problem
Put the multi meter on and check the voltage in place under load. Probably need another person to do it. Sometimes things read ok with no load, but have enough internal resistant to not work under...

Re: Installing interior door and window handles
Dms and Paul have it right. Check the depth of the old handle against the new ones (if they're new) I had at least on set where they weren't quite deep enough, and I had to do a little drilling in...

I only know about the 15" wheels on my 55 bird, but some dimensions are going to be similar.
The early Ford rims had a smaller hub opening than the later wheels. On disc brake conversions using...

Re: 1955 center HUD light
I used a license plate frame with a built in led. It appears chrome when it's off. It's too low to have the full effect, but it's pretty good at night. I've got a 55 bird with both tops, so...
