Re: Dipsticks-no, not my kids

If you in fact know the oil capacity of the whatever engine configuration you are using, then when the engine is filled with that amount of oil, that will show where the level on the dipstick should...

Re: Picture of Holley carburetor float adjustment tool 9550-E

I suspect that this was a tool that was offered to dealership mechanics in the
'52-'53 time frame.

It would have worked on the '49-'51 885's also but I have not seen any reference to one in any...

Re: engine is a quandary

It should be obvious that the rings have worn appox. .040 dia. to give the .125 end gap condition with minimum wear on the cylinders.
Sounds like it could be a candidate for a rebuild like we used...

Re: Bronze valve guides??

Have never had seized valves in my flatheads after sitting and not running for a long time.
Maybe if you have 20 or30 year long winters it may happen.

Re: 6v bulbs

What number bulb are you using?

I believe the standard #1154 bulb is what was originally used.
There are 100's available on Ebay and even from Napa.

Re: Need encouragement head replacement

"Never make a modification without a reason" Have to agree.

Re: How do I remove this heater switch knob?

Just a tip, any of these push on type knobs etc. I have removed, I lightly coated the mating surfaces with Di-electric grease before reassembly. (makes any future removal easier)

Re: Chevy distributor conversion questions.

Unfortunately the distributor does not appear to be the preferred type that has vacuum advance capability.

Re: Exact Engine Year

Suspect that with a 3.25" bore the engine has seen possibly a few rebuilds and has been assembled with a mish-mash of different parts meant for other year applications.

Re: Spark Plug reach into head - Is this normal?

This is what an H-10 plug with 7/16" reach looks like installed in an EAB head.
Yours should be OK.

Re: Wd-40

For each brand there were 4 test nuts and bolts each with its own color.
Except for the heat test that had only 2.

Each one required a different torque to loosen and the final value is the...

Re: Starter Drive Cover

Made one some time ago for an 8BA cast bell out of hardware store 1/32" bare sheet stock.
The original is not pressed in, it is slip fit with the inner edge flared to secure.
Rivets were used to...

Re: Airplane parts? Or junk?

Test or service something (not necessarily an aircraft) is my guess also.

Also they don't give the...

Re: Chrome shop using dull nickel .

Any shop that does chrome plating can do nickel plating.
Just do a Yellow page search for chrome platers in your area.
Bet you will find one within 50 miles.

Re: Powermaster alternator

The carb. does not really have a forwards or backwards, you could even mount it sideways if needed to work for the application.

Re: Opinion n on this thrust bearing?

It is possible that you have a 'shielded' bearing as opposed to a 'sealed' bearing.
The 'shielded' bearing supposedly can be lubricated.
The 'shielded' bearing also has less friction due to the...

Re: 1947 Merc Voltmeter

The wiring schematic I have shows that '47 Merc. uses an Induction (wire thru loop) ammeter, not a volt meter.
If that is what you have then the original gauge can be used on 12 volts just by...
