Re: Happiness Is.....

Frank, I'm going to get serious for a moment. IIRC, your car has overdrive and 3.78's. Are you saying that it starts to over heat at 75 on a 90 degree day in OD? My car (with no OD and 3.55's) runs...

I to have had problems with the fittings with integral ferrules, but never with the separate ones.

Re: Another dumb question

Just like all of the oil change places that "recommend" a 3000 mile interval between oil changes when just about every study says that you can go at least twice that before things start deteriorating...

Re: Another dumb question

When I got my '51 it had 61,000 miles and I did a full tuneup, including points, cap, and a rotor. That was in 1987. In 2016, at 81,000 miles, the original engine was getting a little tired (less...

Re: 1934 Ford Sedan Delivery

When it comes to "driveability", every sedan delivery I ever drove had serious rear vision problems.

Re: Help me identify these holes in my dash

I like the idea of a period-correct compass. My day always installed them in his new Oldsmobiles when he was a traveling salesman on the '40's and '50's. I bought a new Stratus coupe in 2001 that...

Re: Speedometer Gear

The speedometer gear should match the rear end gears. OD or not has no effect on the speedometer, as the gear is after the OD. What rear end ratio do you have?

I am planning on putting an OD in my...

Re: UPS loses Package !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a relief to hear that. The response did seem out of character.

Re: 1940 Deluxe condenser help

I would be highly suspect of an "NOS" condenser. When we pull the guts out of one to install one of our new capacitors, the internal workings usually disintegrate in front of our eyes. We are careful...

Re: 1949 Ford Convertible sagging side rails

I don't fully understand what you mean by "side rails", but the first thing I would do is get the car up and crawl under and check out the body mounts. If you are referring to the top, please ignore...

Re: 8CM or EAB cam for 260" Merc?

Frank, I would not install the 4.11's until I had driven the car for a while and was sure they would be beneficial. From what you are saying, the 3.55's might be just fine with the modified engine.

Re: 8CM or EAB cam for 260" Merc?

I will mention that I have a '51 Merc with a stock cam, massaged Edmunds heads, a 2GC, and Mallory dual point distributor in my '51 club coupe. This is also a heavy car. I had an Isky MAX-1 I was...

Re: 8CM or EAB cam for 260" Merc?

Like others have said, you probably won't be able to tell the difference. I would think the condition of the respective cams (new or used) and what you have for lifters would be the determining...

Re: 8CM or EAB cam for 260" Merc?

Perusing some of the old threads on here shows the 8CM to have .010 (.338 vs. .328) more lift than the EAB. Of course, there's more to it than that, but I think it would be enough for me to pick the...

Re: UPS loses Package !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boy, what a way to show your gratitude. I bet if this happens again you won't get a call. This is the kind of attitude that causes the original problem.

Re: The Defiant One.....at the transmission shop

If I had a transmission like this, I would have dumped it into a bucket of "Rust-911" solution and let it sit a couple of days. You might be surprised with the results.

(I much prefer "Evaporust",...

Re: 1940 Deluxe condenser help

The correct condenser is the vertical one on the right side of your picture; the one on the left side has been added, probably because the original failed. They most likely didn't remove the original...

Re: 1939 Ford-Mercury door pillar

I have to say this but if the car is so far gone that you can't tell where the door pillar attaches, the car is probably too deteriorated to attempt any kind of a recovery. Especially since it is a...

Re: Backfire

Boy, Is that a nice lookin' vehicle. I have the original invoice for my '51 Club coupe somewhere. I think it was almost a thousand dollars cheaper. I'll see if I can find it.

Re: UPS loses Package !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peter - I had the same experience. I sent a set of '51 Merc water pumps to a guy in Germany who really needed them. One arrived with a cracked pulley. I tried everything I could (pictures, etc.), but...

Re: UPS loses Package !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a similar problem with Fedex. I sold a pair of "Double Nickel" (part number ending in "55") heads from a '55 Chrysler to a guy in Wisconsin. They never showed up, no record of anything but them...
