Re: 292 vacuum leak

I have Mummerts valley pan on two engine and haven't had any problems. I did find that I had to groove the front where the thermostat housing is on both. A friend had the same problem. Check this...

Re: Name of fitting?

The one that screws into the intake manifold is called a Heater Control Valve-Vacuum. Part # 18495 I think. This one?

I don't know about the 49 and later cars, but the 48 convertibles has eccentrics that adjust the side rails. Maybe the same on 49 and later??

Re: 272 oiling issues

While I agree that the 55's came with a 239, who knows what might have been changed over the years. Not unusual to find a later engine in the car or truck.

Re: what color should wheels be?

For the Thunderbirds, wheels were painted body color both sides, except for very early ones which had a red oxide type of primer. I don't know if the sedan were the same.

Re: 272 oiling issues

Re: Replace Flathead with Y-Block?

A lot of people would not agree to that statement. The 56 and 57 Fords were top winners in oval track racing and a number of them did good in 1/4 mile racing.

If treated right (as with any other...

Re: ATF fluid recomendation for 56 Auto Transmission

Use what the rebuilder suggests. I had two automatics (C-4's) done at a shop that recommended synthetic. No problems with it.

If you use something else and the trans go sour, the shop may not...

Re: Macs

Now owned by a brand X company. Instead of leaving things along, they started changing everything, including part numbers.

And freight charges went through the roof.

Re: Psi

Your right - I run about 32 lbs in all my radials. My every day cars are about the same.

I think you will find anything over 35 will ride like a truck

Try a shop that balances big truck tires. These may still be balanced this way.

To prevent the gasket from shifting during install, tie some thin string in about four holes to hold it in place.

Re: Unusual carburation on Flathead V8ís

Re: TBird engine

All the Y Blocks, not just the 312's, had the 6015 cast into the block. This is Ford's group number for all engine blocks.

Re: Best Way to Spot Original Wheels at a Swap Meet?

Yes - all the wheels were 15 inch. Other than that I don't have any info on offset or rim width.

All sedan/Tbird rims had 5 on 4 1/2 inch lug pattern. Trucks were different.
