I have a 99a with 4 in and .040 over, stock cam and 97 carb, it would slip a 9in clutch no mater what springs I put in it.
go with a 10in and you wont have any problems

NO, you may be lucky enough to look in to the piston with one of those cameras on a stick thing, but head off is the best way.

transmission case lube
Any one notice the subtle changes to the rear of the trans case to add more lube to the rear bearing.
I had a 35 case and a later one(pictured) on my bench together and the later one has a scollop...
