Re: 46 Merc Engine Questions

I had the same oil filler tube on the 46 Ford truck engine. All it had at the back was a vent above the fuel pump.

Re: 46 Merc Engine Questions

Head bolt heaters were common here. Dad had one on the 52 Merc. It got left out on the rebuild as my brother didn't think we would ever run it in cold weather. Far as I know the Mercury truck engine...

Re: C&G Rubber Parts

The C&G number is 8A-3025 for that rubber suspension bumper so I'd assume it is right. They were cheap enough that I ordered two even though the left side bumper is still in place. I don't know how...

C&G Rubber Parts

A while back I was inquiring here about replacing a missing rubber bump stop on the upper frame under the suspension arm of the 52 Merc. I got a couple of new ones from C&G Parts, reasonably priced....

Re: Flathead Friday. New project. Rusty Crusty Flatty. VIDEO.

Mart, I'd say that rusty flathead has as good or better chance of getting unstuck than either of mine do. Its going on 4 years since I've been pouring various mxtures down the carb and spark plug...

Re: EAB flathead, noise pushing it under load

I remember years ago when we had an old tractor that would squeek under load. It was the head gasket leak causing the noise. I don't recall if it had any other signs of leakage except the squeek.

Re: Back to the scheduled programme. 41pu gets a new fuel gauge.

Watched and liked Mart. I wondered about the ending until you said here what it was.

Re: late flathead oiling?

I'll have to take a look at the seized 53 Mercury engine I have sitting on a stand in the shed and see what it has. I know it had the original filter arrangement. Same as the 52 that I drive. For...

Re: 6 volt turn signals ????

Signal stat was a popular name brand in add on signal light kits back before signals were common on vehicles. I've got a couple of them on fifties IH trucks. Also salvaged another one from a rusted...

Re: Looking Like Winter

We pretty much did. Been a long time since I've seen 74 degrees. Early September I think.
I was a bit disappointed to find that the driving video through yesterday's snow did not turn out. The...

Looking Like Winter

Its not unheard of to have snow for Halloween but this looks and feels more like December. The old Merc hadn't run for over a month but fired up without too much trouble in the 12 degree temps. The...

Re: Lets play guess the home made tool. What does it do?

Reminds me a bit of the very crude hub puller I made for the rear axle of my 59 IH pickup. Yours looks much more refined than mine but it did work.

Re: antifreeze?

It is a bit confusing with how many colours of anti freeze there are now. Besides the old green, I have some red, some yellow. Some recommended for diesel engines. On light duty gas engines I've been...

Re: Winter Storage

All my stuff sits out in the unheated sheds through our Sask. winters and seems to be just fine next spring. Of course water based products won't work well when frozen but ok once they thaw.

Re: Mart's 41 pickup: Broken axle investigation. VIDEO

That hub puller was impressive. Never seen one like it and wish I'd had one when I pulled a rear hub on my 39. I used the old crab style 2 (or was it 3?) jaw puller which worked but not easy.

Re: I broke my truck! Now on VIDEO!

You got lucky with that axle Mart. Could have been a disaster for sure. I've got a spare axle in a 38 Deluxe parts car if mine ever breaks.

Re: Drag it home...Eastern Oregon find

Nice one! What happened to the "wide fives"? Somebody updated the axles and hubs maybe?

Re: A new idea from Mart. Mart's Real Hot Rods. On Youtube.

Hi Mart
Liked and commented already on the video. Music can be a nice background but its hard to please everybody. I've done it on a few of my videos but of course if it is copyrighted music Youtube...

Re: Fall In The Rockies

Is that left side exhaust manifold a special after market part? I don't recall dual exhaust being an option on the 52-53 Mercs. My front cross over pipe has a small hole burnt in it that might be an...

Re: 60 Years With The Merc

A lot of the credit goes to the little guy with his head sticking out the driver's window. My little brother , by the late seventies was a certified heavy duty mechanic and he took on the project of...

60 Years With The Merc

According to the original bill of sale, my dad bought the 52 Merc 60 years ago on October 16th (tomorrow). So I put together a few vintage photos and some newer driving video to mark the occasion. It...

Re: Fall In The Rockies

I figured it was probably a cold weather issue. Does yours have the heat riser control down in the right side exhaust manifold like mine has?

Re: Fall In The Rockies

What a great scenic video (and sound). Was that a slight stumble when you hit the gas at the 3:30 mark? I'm guessing you have a good working heater in the Merc. Mine has been disconnected as I think...

Re: Merc Suspension Bumpers

Actually I was a little surprised how easy the fit. I was doing a test fit before I applied heat and dish soap but they just popped in by hand.
So I am hoping it stays in place and does not pop out...

Merc Suspension Bumpers

Got the new rubber suspension bumpers for the front of the Merc in the mail today. C&G Ford got them here with no problem. Now to see if I can install without any hitches. Maybe I'll record a little...
