Thumbs down Re: Over the top rat rod

That's one way to make small dollars out of big ones.

Re: Wheel Washers

Dirttrack 49, I am jumping ahead a bit here but when you come to reassemble the hub onto the axle, make sure both the axle and inside of the hub are spotlessly clean of any trace of oil or grease. I...

Re: Is Bars Leak still a good temp fix

I've found that the oil in Barsleaks causes the hoses to swell and go soft, even mushy. I use it as little as I can get away with.

Re: Spark Plug Gap

I think he is asking about the plug gap, not the points gap.

Re: Rear drum question

Just about every original rear hub is worn out by now. They wear most at the axle nut end and if left in service, will cause the axle to break. They are no different from anything else on the car. If...

Re: Size Press To Swedge Wheel Studs?

30 tons is good but sure the hub is well supported at the back.

Smile Re: Rear A steering stabilizer use.

When you corner, the rear axle can move sideways as the shackles move differently on each side. That allows the body to move outwards and how much it moves depends on a few things like how fast you...

Re: Rear A steering stabilizer use.

I have made a Panhard bar for each of my Model As. The rear end seems to be better nailed to the road but not by a lot.

Re: Wheel Washers

Even if the stud holes are not flogged out, I'd use the washers. They are cheap insurance.

Re: Wheel Washers

What tinkirk says but I'd still use one washer on each stud.

Re: Front end shimmy

I NEVER hammer those cotter pins in now. I did once and ruined the axle by elongating the king pin eye.

Re: Muffler Shield Device

AL in NY has had the same experience as I . Those shields are as useless as fly screens on a submarine.

Re: Front end shimmy

Do a search. That matter has been discussed to death. All you could wish to know will be in a previous thread.

Re: Diamond block engine

Most say that there is no difference, others prefer the diamond block. Personally, I see no difference.

Re: Brake drums

My machinist made an arbour for the rear drums. It didn't take him long and he now gets plenty of work for it. He did my drums on his lathe and they are excellent.

Re: A parts dealer catalogs

Snyders changed their website a few years ago but stupidly made it so that it would not recognise a phone number (compulsory field) that was not American. Result - no international customers. They...

Re: Parts Pile

I wish stashes like that turned up over here. Anyone who did have a few parts would be trampled in the stampede if they advertised it.
You guys don't know how easy you have it.

Re: Brake fades if hot

Hydraulic brakes will fade just like mechanical ones. I used to drive a 1967 Toyota. Brake fade was a part of the "character" of that car. I don't know how many times I had both feet on the pedal and...

Re: Is Bars Leak still a good temp fix

We have a product by the same name but obviously very different. Ours is pellets suspended in a soluble oil. When water gets at the pellets, they break up and the fragments swell. Yes, I've used it...

Re: Brake fades if hot

Werner, as a rule of thumb, you should always descend a hill in the gear you would use to climb it and keep your foot off the accelerator. Let the engine do the braking and use the brakes only as a...

Re: Exh gasket cond. Q.

If the intake manifold is not the one originally fitted to that exhaust manifold, there will almost certainly be a mismatch. By now, most exhaust manifolds have become so warped that they have been...

Re: Oil Pan Gasket Installation

I clean the groove and use super glue to hold the gasket while I put the sump on.

Re: "It ran well when I parked it!"

Squirt some MMO or other penetrating lube in at the top as described above and leave it alone. You might have to add more lube but once should do it. One morning, you'll come out to the garage and...
