Do you mean the ammeter? It has no effect on that, only oil pressure, gas, and temp gauges.

Each gauge and sender draws about 600 mA, at least on my '52 truck. So peak max draw of 3.6 amps.
I had one like 51-Merc linked to, and could see the voltage regulator cycling on the gauges. I...
