Re: adjustable tappets

During motor rebuild last winter, had the adjustable tappets added. I believe the single nuts/tappets have a slight mismatch in threads for an interference fit, additionally the rebuilder used some...

Re: BackFlushing Radiator and Engine

I agree with ryan, both methods work. I have also used thermocure in addition to the white vinegar.

Nice thing about the thermocure is it actually "dissolves" the rust, where white vinegar...

Re: BackFlushing Radiator and Engine

Here is my version of Tom's tools.

Automotive freeze plugs, and some garden hose repair fittings, and a cheap inline shutoff valve adapter.

Drill a hole slightly undersized for the hose...

Re: BackFlushing Radiator and Engine

After treating with anything acidic (White vinegar, muriatic acid, etc.), neutralize the remnants of they acid in the cooling system with water/baking soda. Flush/backflush thoroughly a couple of...

Re: New to Ford Model A

I see you have the official Ford Throttle Return Assist Spring. A common accessory:)

Seems like a good truck, not a barn find or rust bucket. An A that needs the usual attention of an A that...

Re: update on getting dizzy after being under the A.

Glad to hear it was not something serious. Would be nice if we had a users manual for typical aging issues.:)

To all who have served - thanks for your service.

Re: ROTELLA 15W 40 Oil

I find Werner's post #10 interesting. Have a motor that was rebuilt last winter and have been using Rotella 15w40 diesel oil. Motor runs great, but 500 mile oil changes are a deep India ink black...

Re: NICE COUPE ON mafca ONLY 7000......

Not interested, have enough to do on the one I have, and no room for it. But I do like drivers, they have character and sometimes create a lot of friendly discussion with others. As long as the...

Re: Oil In My Water

Perhaps posting on HAMB/another Forum or talking to motor rebuilders (Bert's?) are additional resources.

Am an armchair mechanic on motors. But to me this is not making a lot of sense. Last...

Thanks for correcting me, senior moment. That's something I've always noticed here, mistakes get corrected, which is a good thing:)

Re: cracked cyl head

Looks really clean. If the coolant passages are cruddy, now would be the time for a block treatment or 2.

Tappet gap check adjustment?

Re: Transmission dipstick kit

Only downside, would be nice if they made a trans kit where the tube/dip stick stuck above the floor. Then there would be no need to pull the floor covering and access plate up.

Re: Transmission dipstick kit

I have one, use for same reasons as post 5, back issues.

I also installed the Battery access kit so I do not have to remove the entire lower floor board to remove/install/service the battery....

Re: BackFlushing Radiator and Engine

Have been through this myself.

You can do the block and radiator separately, or do them with as an intact cooling system.

When doing it as a system or when doing the radiator by itself, do...

Re: ROTELLA 15W 40 Oil

Have you tried other oils in your A, and if yes how does the color of the Rotella...

Re: ROTELLA 15W 40 Oil

From my reading and understanding and my opinion

Zinc was not originally (late 20s/early 30s) an additive in oil. Zinc was added when higher compression motors were developed that revved /ran...
