Re: Vacuum Wiper motor removal

Original Trico screws. The parts vendors such as Snyders and Brattons offer an inexpensive tool that fits those. Otherwise needlenose pliers have always worked for me.

Re: Engine stumbles on acceleration

There have been many threads regarding inferior parts quality and issues being billed or receiving refunds from MACS / Ecklers.

Just a suggestion, but you might want to use vendors that support...

Re: Drag Link Replacement Question

Assuming the spring was 1" long, then it would need to be compressed 1/4" (25% of its length).
At 24 Threads per Inch, each complete rotation of the plug would move it by 0.0416".
It would require...

Re: Short Pitman Arm Question

If ALL of the play is in the steering box, then shortening the pitman arm will have no effect on the play. Regardless of the length of the pitman arm, it is stationary if you have no play in the...

Re: looking for a ride

I recently used Fastenal to ship a large item half-way across the country, so they definitely ARE still doing it. My item was about 200 lbs and loaded on a pallet. Cost me $160. Fastenal's freight...

Re: Steering Wobble Troubleshooting

That steering sector shaft has a lot of play.
I would recommend a rebuild of the steering box.
I would also remove the steering damper and begin eliminating sources of play in the front end.

Re: Model A Shock

Your base has an 8-Pie design, definitely not Model A.
Also the tapered bottom edge of the cover with no lock ring.
My guess would be 32 Model B - but I'll have to defer to the experts there....

Re: Model A Shock

Please attach a picture.

From your description, this may not be a Model A shock.
I'm not aware of ANY original shock that had "Patent Applied For" stamped on the cover.

And there is no lock...

Re: Painting black insert in 30/31 instrument panel

Please 'splain it publicly. I thought it was a valid question and we can all learn from it. Most of us rely on the judging standards for guidance

Re: Door latches

Same latches were used on Coupe & Tudor. I like the originals better than repo.
ebay is another source for originals... I see them turn up there occasionally.
Chuck Kuntz had some listed for sale...

Re: Lower bearing and flange assembly 7 tooth

Yes, I would think it should be fine.
At the angle of the steering box, that entire lower bearing is immersed in lube.

Re: pops, slips, drops out of second gear

I always heard that the MARC gears were good (I have no first-hand experience using anything but original gears). But you still might have too much play with the gears on the main shaft.
Several...

Re: Fog Light Switch Help

I believe the switch itself was illuminated.
Hooked up to the tail-lights so that anytime the lights were on, the switch would illuminate. Might want to check to see if it has a bulb in it, and if...

It looks like you have a firewall hole placement for an otwell heater, but have an AutoLite exhaust manifold on your vehicle.

Here is what I have in my collection. Would like to credit the author for this, but not sure where or who it originally came from.
It sounds like the article you are referring to.

Re: Lower bearing and flange assembly 7 tooth

If it's not in the correct position, it has to be the lower plate.
See this image (from Snyders) showing how the alignment of the plate and lower bearing determines the slot position for the light...

Re: pops, slips, drops out of second gear

You have eliminated the tower / forks / detents etc by swapping the tower.

My guess would be either some poor quality repro gears, or too much clearance in the sliding gears on the main shaft.

Re: Reducing Steering Free Play

Movement of that magnitude should be fairly easy to spot. Top to bottom, the kingpin bushings would be suspect and/or wheel bearings.

If you eliminated the steering box as a source of free...

Re: Where do I go from here??

If you don't have a garage to store it in, you might look into the mini-storage facilities in your area. That car should not be left outside.
