Re: Under hood Insulation

The 19-49 Ford factory parts manual does not show insulation used in the hood, only a a extrusion that is installed on the cowl to seal the hood to the cowl.

Re: Yblock help - MN

Josh,
I live between Lakeville, Prior Lake.
I have a 56 Ford Victoria.
I've been working on cars for over 50 years and I have a lot of Y block parts around the shop. I have a Fordomatic on my...

Re: 1955 Ford Thunderbird overdrive solenoid install.

I copied this from a Borg Warner document "Rebuilding an R 10 overdrive" posted by the ClassicTruck.com website. I have a PDF copy in my transmission info file. I tried to post a link of the...

Re: 1955 Ford Thunderbird overdrive solenoid install.

You mentioned that the solenoid you are installing is new.
In that case make sure you do the check that is in the links that dmsfrr included in his post. It states that if the punger protrudes more...

Re: Timing at full advance?

Ron,

I think you really need to use a troubleshooting process that starts with a guess (hypothesis) and then use a test that tells you if you are right or wrong.

You think the harmonic...

Re: Timing at full advance?

Ron,

Some thoughts.

The info SCIALA just posted is the best procedure when checking total timing.

Your engine ID plate confirms it's an industrial engine. Most, if not all, industrial...

Re: Want to buy a '54 Mercury Monterrey 302ci V8 but the overflow is dripping?

Great looking car!
I posted a pic of the left front upper A arm with arrows pointing to areas that look like they may have been welded or modified. Good chance that it may have been wrecked at...

Re: 1956 Victoria overdrive

The main difference is the shift cover. Does it look like any of these?

Re: 1956 Victoria overdrive

DaveBPT,

I agree with the previous posters that the T85 transmission is stronger than the T86.
I don't believe however that the T85 was used in the 1956 passenger car behind the 312.
I am...

Re: Checking radiator for overheating problem with 1956 Thunderbird

Zuburg,
After reading these posts again I would like to circle back to the original post. I still see two things in there strongly indicate a radiator problem.
1. Mice made a restaurant out of...

Re: 1959 Mercury Monterey 312 2v Ballast Resistor

You have part of it right, but we need to modify somewhat.
As a number of posters have mentioned, the ballast resistor is basically taken out of the ignition circuit during cranking by the starter...

Re: 1959 Mercury Monterey 312 2v Ballast Resistor

Stephenorf,
The reason it's called a ballast resistor is they are used to stabilize current flow in a device.
I believe the "normal" resistor your referring to is typical electronic resistor and...

Re: 1959 Mercury Monterey 312 2v Ballast Resistor

KULTULZ,

Saved by displaying your airtight DISCLAIMER. I suspect you intended to have a ballast resistor in the schematic, but I can't seem to find it.

Re: New regulator problems

delco1946,

Are you sure the belt is tight? It could be slipping enough so that at idle the voltage is low enough to turn on the light.

Re: A mystery water pump pulley?

dmsfrr,

Did you see this one on ebay? It looks just like the one in your pic, and it has the same part number, but unfortunately there isn't anything that would confirm it's actually for a...

Re: '52 F-1 Engine Swap

Looks like a great candidate for a "mechanical" restoration. Solid body, nice patina, and a Y block to make freeway driving easier.
IMO you are doing the right thing.
Take a look at the bottom...

Re: Early Production '57 Ford Data Plate Questions

Sorry, but it's not for sale.
It's a bound OEM parts manual in good condition, actually too good to take out to the shop so I use a downloaded 1949-1959 manual in out there. I just print out what...

Re: Early Production '57 Ford Data Plate Questions

This may add to the solution, or confusion. I believe this is the original published version of the 1957 Ford serial plate.
It's from my original 1955-1956-1957 Ford Parts manual Form 7516,...

Re: Checking radiator for overheating problem with 1956 Thunderbird

Your right about the problems with IR guns. This link pretty well explains them.
I was kind of wondering about the 48 degree drop. The normal radiator water temp drop is usually between 10-30 F. A...

Re: '56 Country Sedan Overheating

tsanborn,

This is a bit puzzling. You had an engine rebuilt that was not overheating, and added some modifications to reduce potential overheating, and now it overheats.
Dmsfrr’s suggestion of...

Re: '56 Country Sedan Overheating

[ in the high 70s to low 80s, the engine temperature climbs above the gauge range and will continue to peg on hot if I don't shut it down. ]

Has it gotten hot enough to blow out antifreeze? You...

Re: Heating up a block to get stuck dizzy out

Jim,

I haven't tried it in a car, but I built it as small as possible just so it would. I haven't had a chance try it on my 56, but hopefully will this week.
It definitely works great on engines...
