On my ccpu I had left the truck at the glass shop they cut the glass and installed it fits perfectly I have never noticed if it lies parallel to door bottom,I will have to look.

Just a thought as the spring flexes it wears a groove into the leaf below it,if you have no weight on the spring while trying to tighten the spring clips possibly the leaves are resting on the unworn...

I would make sure the clamp at the manifold is not inverted or half upside down.I purchased the clamp from Brattons great quality the muffler flange has to be dead nuts on exhaust manifold and clamp...

When I purchased my ccpu in 61 it came with a glass shift knob it also has a brass adapter in it to fit the A shaft.
