Re: Stubborn Tight 2-Piece Valve Guide Won't Come Out

I used a heavy copper hammer and had to whack a few of them pretty stoutly. Are you using the bent rod type tool or the one that fits round the valve stem and you whack the top of the valve? I used...

Re: Renumbering question

I would post a picture but don’t know how to re size them. The serial number boss on the motor out of my truck has machine marks still visible where original numbers were removed.

Re: Head Gasket

Also the problem of removal is rust/sticky studs. Use some GOOD rust penatrate like aero kroil. Not WD 40.
Best penetrating oil Iíve found is mixing 1/2 transmission fluid and 1/2...

Re: Head Gasket

Only been on 5 years? Should pop right off. I'm guessing the AA head I pulled had been on about 35 years. Took me a couple days.

Re: Renumbering question
If you re-stamp the engine there should be a star before and after the number. Also the numbers are of a particular size. Make sure your engine rebuilder has a correct set...

Re: Musty Smell

Hydrogen peroxide is the best thing I’v found to eliminate odor. Works for skunk odor and even a refrigerator that had power off for 3 weeks one summer in the fishing camp. Don’t know how safe it...

Re: Renumbering question

Well I guess for practical purposes, the manufacturers serial number of the vehicle is the one stamped on the frame (completely invisible with body installed) and the original engine would have had...

Re: Renumbering question

I’m leaning towards stamping the 1930 original VIN number under the 1928 engine number. That way it will be obvious the engine isn’t original but original VIN will be visible.

Renumbering question

Working on a AA truck. Engine needs rebuilt. The engine that came in the truck is not original but the numbers were machined off the block and it was re-stamped to match the original numbers and...

Re: Take your best shot!

My uncle was a flight engineer and tail gunner in B24 in WWII. Part of their training was shooting skeet from back of moving trucks.

Re: Winterizing a Model A

I plan to winterize my AA by adding antifreeze and making me up a set of tire chains. Oh and add a manifold heater.

Re: Change in driving between Model T and Model A

My grandfather’s first few cars were used. So likely previous owner showed him basics of operation. His first T was a TT. That he drove until just before WWII.

Re: King Pin Retaining Bolts

I could see no material difference in my AA axles front to back. I replaced a bent one and both had straight holes for locking pins.

Re: King Pin Retaining Bolts

The holes in my AA axle aren’t tapered but the pins are. They wedge against the flat on the king pin. I measured the holes with an inside caliper because I thought they would be tapered but they...

Re: Lateral Movement in Transmission Input Shaft

Like they said. The pilot bearing is the other half of the equation. My AA 4 speed had a load of slop there initially, but only a small amount after rebuilding. Make sure to replace pilot bearing and...

Re: Emergency brake anti rattle felt

Well the button sleeve definitely is made integral with my ‘30 lever. When I disassembled there was a small hard fiber washer under the spring and the tiniest remnants of a felt washer. I think I did...

Re: 5/16 Press in Grease Fitting Doesn't Fit (too small)

Check and make sure the holes aren’t tapped for 1/8” pipe thread. If not and they are too big you could tap them 1/8” and use threaded fittings. Difficulty you are having greasing original fittings...
