Re: Speedo is “jumpy”

If you have not tried it, perhaps time for a new cable. Could be the old one is full of rust/crap/dried lube. To trouble shut find an old cable, cut it short, and use a variable speed drill to...

Re: Head Gasket

There is an alternative type head puller that reportedly works well on really stubborn heads. Typically homemade. Instead of using something that pulls on the head from above, it uses bolts against...

Re: Fuel Bowl Question

Hi Jim,

As long as you are careful and do not get shards of the yellow tape in the gas, what is the objection to the yellow gas resistant tape?

I understand the fix it right the 1st...

Re: Fuel Bowl Question

Never use the white teflon "plumbers" tape for gas/oil. It is not resistant to oil gas. There is a similar version of tape that is yellow and the plastic parts the tape is wound on is yellow, that...

Re: Renumbering question

Compare the surface texture of the sorrounding block to the #/stamp area. Typically when re-stamping, teh old # is ground off causing a smoother/different texture than on the block

Re: Noisy generator

I had that squeal. Took a while to figure out where the noise was coming from since the sound does not change much from idle to cruising rpms. Finally took off the fan belt and noise went away. ...

Re: How is it.........

I could be incorrect, the GAV does very little for idle, if idle rpm is set to less than 500 rpm. I believe at cruising speeds the GAV also does not do much.

At idle and cruising speeds...

Re: When is a "Model A" no longer a "Model A"

Might be able to do wheelies with all that weight on the back? That would be something to see, a Model A equipped with wheelie bars, doing wheelies.:D:o:)

Re: Speedo is “jumpy”

Mine did that when I 1st pulled it out of a long storage. Had a bunch of things done to my truck at a shop including this issue. Was told that since it sat too long the cable and speedo lube had...

Re: How is it.........

Leaning the carb out would probably involve a complete tuning of the carb, including re-jetting.

Another supposed thing you can do is to perform or have the carb air balanced which involves...

Re: Head Gasket

Sometimes that method works, depends on the condition of the motor. If the head bolts are rusted to the head, if you have had a bad head gasket and coolant has rusted/corroded the head/block, if you...

Re: Engine Misfire Knock

Thanks for the update - glad you were able to figure out. In this case you may have been able to narrow things down quickly by 1st disconnecting the fan belt, would have ruled out the generator and...

Re: Taking the plunge into Model A ownership!

Before even tuning over the motor.
Drain/clean gas tank (do not want to suck varnished gas/rust into the carb), flush/replace all fluids since oil/grease turns bad sitting for that length of time,...

Re: Spark Question

I had the same type plates as those in the pictures, also had issues. One issue was an occasionally miss under low RPM/high load, Ex: going up a hill from a stop. Had other strange issues at...

Re: 1930 Sport Coupe 11 MPG, backfire when turned off

Use google maps to verify your speedometer is accurate. If the odometer off, your mileage would be off the same percentage. My A only gets 12-14 mpg, fresh motor standard head, 3.54 rear end, 16...

Re: 1930 Sport Coupe 11 MPG, backfire when turned off

In my case I was not turning off off, coasting, and then back on. I would be driving, pull in somewhere, motor idling, and then turn off the ignition, split second later - boom. Was not turning the...

Re: When is a "Model A" no longer a "Model A"

If I remember correctly there was an aftermarket kit at one time to put that on a VW. I remember seeing a few of them back in in the day.:)
