This is the coil spring outside the rear backing plate that pushes the parking brake lever to retract.

There must be a trick to install this - does anyone have any tips how to get this spring in...

I use them to help with alignment of the manifold to the block. If you cannot make them line up, its usually a sign of a warped manifold.

I’ve done several engine installs the first way, and always have an issue getting the alignment between clutch and transmission right. Never tried it the other way - might be a lot simpler.

Removed the rear axle today in 4 hours, start to finish. we found significant bearing wear on the axle hubs as well as the inner hubs on the rear drums - lots of wear and pitting. No damage to axle...

Another rear wheel bearing question

As I refurbish the rear axle, I plan to have the wheel bearing surfaces on the horn of the axle housing turned down and press hardened sleeves on to restore the original bearing surface dimensions...

Also check the float to be sure it doesn’t have a hole in it that allows it to rill up with fuel and sink rather than float.

I notice that some vendors stock two types of rear wheel bearings. One type is labeled Ďreplacementí, has 12 plain rollers in 4 groups of 3. The other looks like the original, also with 12 rollers...
