Youíve worked with these transmissions a lot, if I recall correctly. If it was yours, would you rebuild it? Or, put it together to see if the noise goes away? Or, maybe something else that Iím not...

The metal fragment is about the size of a dime.

When the car is cold, it's tough to shift into second until the engine (and transmission) warm up.

If I remove the starter to take a look, does the starter reattach easily, or do you typically have to ďfightĒ to get it back into the car?

I plan to take the tower off the transmission when I get a chance. I hadnít thought about starter parts flying around. Thatís a good idea too.
